    How keen is too keen?

I throw my hat into the ring of meeting him somewhere for an "interview" and then going from there. The whole email thing I would wager is somewhat cultural. The young now-a-days have never really had to deal with things like not having a cell phone (much less a "smart" phone), having a...

    Taint (Corruption) and Campaigns

Thank you to all who gave ideas and references! I've managed to find or borrow all the books, now I just need to read through the various sections. I did get through Dark Heresy, and liked the ideas and how they worked it for the Warhammer 40K setting. So once I get through the Star Wars...

    Is D&D a Game

D & D is a game, sub-categorized as a role-playing game. Monopoly is a game, sub-categorized as a board game. Halo 2 is a game, sub-categorized as a video game. Football is a game, sub-categorized as a sport (otherwise, why is it a Football game?) Fishing is a sport to some, and not to...

Iron DM 2011--All slots filled--LET'S PLAY!

Ya, my sentiments as well - which is why I withdrew rather than posted something I'd have felt was knowingly poor.

    Taint (Corruption) and Campaigns

As I work toward putting a campaign together, one of the ideas I've been toying with is that of Taint, or corruption if you will. Namely, a specific forest within the world is extremely corrupt and those who venture there are never the same - some die, some go mad, while others bear the scars...

    Using magic to make money

Yep. Based on what I've seen, both when I was in the service (with a huge pool of gamers) and what I've seen on various boards since, I'd have to say that 1 to 3 seems about right. But, I'll qualify that a wee bit by saying that those 1 to 3 are what gets played repeatedly, or consistantly...

Iron DM 2011--All slots filled--LET'S PLAY!

Yeah... I do apologize. I actually learned a few things about how I design, and enjoyed the endevour. So I kinda feel bad for cheating you out of another round. And too, since I actually don't have a home game, or group, right now, this was a surrogate way for me to game. <sad face> But...

Iron DM 2011--All slots filled--LET'S PLAY!

I'm afraid I need to withdraw. I simply have too many irons in the fire and finding time to go another round at this point would be next to improbable. Unfortunately, real life doesn't always work the way one expects (like having deadlines at work move). My apologies.

IRON DM 2011--Rules, Entries, Judgements, & Commentary

Congrats @Pour , that's two for you. Overall, I have to say that this has been an interesting road to travel. The time restriction is definitely a key element where I've felt the weakest. Quite often, it'll take me a good week, or more, to have all the bits I need to make an adventure I feel...

Iron DM 2011--All slots filled--LET'S PLAY!

The last couple times I was at Gen Con, it really did become just a big shopping trip! But it was enjoyable none-the-less.

    Mearls: Augmenting the core

I have to be missing something. "Layers" isn't the right term, but I understand what the idea is. In every edition of D & D you could pick and choose what supplements and rules you wanted. In 1E you could or could not use the Unearthed Arcana, Dungeoneers Guide, etc.; in 2E you could or could...

Who are the big 3rd party publishers?

Big by quality, big by impact, or some other big? Back in the heyday of 3.5, big would be people like (not all inclusive) Mongoose, Sword & Sorcery, Necromancer, and Green Ronin for their volume and, in not all cases mind you, quality of supplements. Now-a-days, I wouldn't consider any big as...

Could Wizards ACTUALLY make MOST people happy with a new edition?

Short and sweet: No. WotC has alienated some, annoyed others, and peeved plenty more. Many don't give two hoots what WotC does, and that would include a new edition.

Iron DM 2011--All slots filled--LET'S PLAY!

Only 500 pages?! Psha! When I was younger, we had 5000 pages of transcription, every night, in seven feet of snow, chased by gnolls, uphill, both ways! :p I keep forgetting that Gen Con is next week. But that's probably because I haven't gone for a while (and probably won't be able to for...

Looking for Playtesters for Rome setting

Is this aimed at being true to the republic as history, or a more fanciful rendition? Are we talking about playing various roles as senators and generals and the expansion of Rome through europe; or being adventurers forcing Rome's will on the orcs across the Rubicon? I ask as I'm trying to...

    Using magic to make money

Nope. In none of my campaigns has anyone ever tried using such things. I've had characters buy land and try to make money off the resources available therein; or dabble in trade routes; or make use of a thieves' guild; or similar "legitimate" enterprises.

    Tabletop Projection

Be aware of the resolution of the image it projects in addition to the lumens. The IC 100 does 640x480, which won't scale well. The bigger the displayed image, the more pixelation you will get. If you have a hard time imagining it, change the resolution on your current computer to 640x480 and...

Gender, Settings, Mechanics, and Everything Else

I don't use gender differences for PCs. I see no point as the PCs are "special" anyway. In the background, I tend to let stereotypcial norms run though with regards to roles. So with a fantasy setting, you will most likely find the men in the labor intensive jobs, and women in the others. I...
