[Three Lines Studio] Dave Arneson's True Genius Published

Doesn't that kind of undercut the whole premise? Sort of an admission that it was Braunstein that started it all? (which in turn evolved from Diplomacy and wargames)

    Blueholme: A Simulacrum

Nice to see the end of the journey is in sight (so to speak).

What if the only 4 alignments were NE, LN, CN and NG? (No true neutrals).

Well, it started out 3 alignments (Law, Chaos and Neutral, with Law = Good and Chaos = Evul), then it moved to 5 alignments when EGG realized (at least to him) that chaos does not necessarily mean evil and law does not necessarily mean good, then to the 9. Personally though, I would argue that...

    Stock art starship deck plans?

I can draw dungeon maps decently enough. But starship deck plans are a bit beyond me, both from the design point of view and the actual drawing part. However, there doesn't seem to be any stock art starship deck plans on DTRPG. Plenty of ones for non-commercial use, but commercial use is what I...

    Kong: Skull Island

The most recent American Godzilla actually followed the formula that most of the Japanese Godzilla movies used, focusing on humans for the first 60-70% of the movie. It works when the humans are actually interesting or likable and there is a coherent plot. That wasn't really the case, I thought...

    How do you pronounce "Minotaur"?

Min-uh-tar, but just discovered I've been saying "lichen" incorrectly for 40 years. Oops. (Though thankfully, that's never come up in normal conversations)

More Questioning of the Gygax Memorial Fund ... and lack of comms or progress

Cue that John Troy guy to show up and say that everything is going wonderfully...

Sword Coast Legends Developer n-Space Closes Down After 21 Years

Looking at their previous game development, it's really a puzzle that they were given such a complex game like Sword Coast Legends. Their entire portfolio is either ports or games for handhelds (mostly the DS) and mobile. Their biggest previous title was a 3DS game, an action RPG. Granted...

Has anyone ever created a Stage Magician class?

Isn't that basically an illusionist? (The original Oe/1e). I mean, the reason we have stage magicians in the real world is because we don't really have magic, so psychology, chemistry, and physics are used as tools to create the impression of magic. In the average D&D world, there is magic, so...

D&D comes to Middle Earth (from Cubicle 7)

Eh. As a long time player of Lord of the Rings Online, I live with Loremasters who are pretty close to D&D MUs (they can cause earthquakes and throw fire) and then Rune-Keepers, who are basically Sith, shooting lightning around. Then you have Champions which are close to being Clerics (or maybe...

    Rank the (original) Trek movies

II is just about the only movie (or TV show) where starship combat feels like starship combat. To me at least. Not realistic, but at the same time, not just air or naval battles in space.

List of Fantasy Series for D&D? The Appendix En World

That list is very heavy on recent books. Which isn't exactly surprising, but still

Is TOMB OF HORRORS the Worst Adventure Of All Time?

I think there are two misconceptions. Firstly, I don't think it really was a tournament module. Oh sure, it got used at conventions. But it lacks the scoring system found in other tournament modules and I don't think it was run as a tournament, where the best players would win prizes...

Can it be? a true DUNGEONS & DRAGON movie with a budget?!?

Didn't the first D&D movie have a fairly decent budget? Something like $50 million? (Which would be like twice that in modern money). With some reasonably "name" actors. Who didn't put much effort into it (well, Marlon Wayons did, but no one else)

    The Origin of the Fireball

"Saving throw" was in use in wargames for quite some time though. It was used in games that didn't have hit points, when you were attacked, a figure made a saving throw or died. Do a google search for it and it will turn up mentions of it in Donald Featherstone's book, "Wargames" from 1962

    D&D General Monster ENCyclopedia: Jackalwere

A lot of words are "technically" incorrect. Decimate, for instance, literally means reduce by 10%. Yet it is used to mean widespread destruction or devastation, even though the technical meaning (right in the word itself) is only 10% and minor.

    Gygax Magazine to Cease Publication

I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did, to be honest. It was a good magazine though.

Can you reference two (or more?) OGLs when making one product?

Yeah, but there is only one specifically called the "Open Gaming License" or OGL and thus is what everyone (but you apparently) understands OGL to mean. Also, you've confused trademark licenses which are separate things, allowing people limited use of a company's trademark under specific...

    Blueholme: A Simulacrum

Good to here. The original is among my top 10 retro-clones/simulacrum games. (Which might not seem impressive, but bear in mind there are dozens, if not 100s of them)
