Your most anticipated games of 2016?

Crypts and Things Remastered (though it was originally supposed to be a late 2015 game)

Unauthorized And Unlicensed But Sometimes Acceptable RPGs?

Maybe, maybe not. There would be nothing stopping them from making it, they'd just have to compete with a lot of other Star Wars films and shows. Look at Dracula. Despite it being public domain, a lot of good movies have been made along with a lot of bad ones. But people still keep making them.

Why Aren't Designers Using The GUMSHOE System?

As far as I know, GUMSHOE was written as a response to a perceived problem in Call of Cthulhu. Namely, that players would need to find a clue to progress along the investigation. On a failed roll, no clue, so they are stuck. However, I think that problem could have been fixed by simply...

List of TTRPG settings which originated in other media

Maybe it's listed under something else, but there is a Terran Trade Authority RPG which was based on a series of art books from the '70s and early '80s with really fantastic paintings of starships (many of which were later re-used for covers of novels and magazines)...

Sword Coast Legends is not D&D

There was a game for the Playstation Portable called D&D Tactics. It was essentially like X-com

Should the original creators of classes and monsters get credit?

While Gary Gygax more than anyone put D&D together as a rules set, lots and lots of people had input in to the game. Dave Arneson, obviously, but many of the classes and monsters were created by people who have largely gone down into obscurity. The Ranger, for instance, was created by Joe...

    D&D 3.x Retrofitting 3.5e/PF into my OSR

There are a few 3e-ish inspired OSR games. Blood & Treasure is probably the closest to an OSR version of 3e.I liked it a lot when it came out, but after playing it, I found some of the classes to not to so well designed. http://matt-landofnod.blogspot.com/p/blood-treasure.html Myth & Magic...

How many spell progression tables are out there?

Which editions? And official or unofficial? My favorite for 1e was a Witch class in dragon that had 8 spell levels (bridging the gap between Cleric having 7 and MU 9)

The Plane of Shadow: Dimly Lit?

In the 1e Manual of Planes, it's only a Demi-Plane and gets all of one paragraph. But it's described as "murky". I've always thought of it as like a night scene in a movie or TV show - it's dark, but you can somehow still see things. Diffuse lighting, there's no obvious source, but it's just...

What's a Freelance RPG Writer Worth?

Apparently if you are going to write a module, you should base it on HP Lovecraft. In one month my module about the Mi-Go has made $50 off of 340 downloads (40 paid), which is about 4x better than any previous effort. Still, that was also 11,000 words, longer than any previous effort, so maybe...

Are Knights and Cavaliers the same thing?

A week late, but I don't think that's true at all. Knightly orders like the Templars were quite different than Paladins, which were meant to represent the Knight Errant found in the tales of Charlemagne (where Paladin comes from) or King Arthur. Clerics were meant to represent the more...

POLL: What's Your Favorite Kind of Adventure?

None of above. What I like are semi-sandbox setting, sort of like what Necromancer would often put out for 3e (Barakus is probably the best of what I mean). Sadly, they seem to have gone all Adventure Pathy these days. Basically a fairly well described wilderness area with several locations...

Survey of RPG use? Free sample for your help!

Call me old fashioned, but I think the best way to find out this sort of thing is to make stuff and see what sells and what doesn't. Besides different product types, different price ranges, different themes. I don't think you are going to get any meaningful sort of sample size like this, and...

Why does ENWorld hate Burning Wheel?

I don't think it hates it, but this site started as a 3.0 site and while it's broadened, it's mostly broadened to other editions of D&D...you might find a thread or two about some other game, but that's it, unless it's something this place puts out.

The Beast That Waits (Three Sages Games 2014)

Somehow I missed this product, The Beast That Waits from Three Sages Games (available from DTRPG/RPNow), using the Sword & Wizardy (Complete) Rules. It apparently came out in the summer of last year (2014) and I just didn't notice it. I'm kicking myself, because it's essentially my favorite sort...

Greyhawk: Why the Scarlet Brotherhood is full of monks?

Weren't they always monks? That's how the original Greyhawk folio describes them, and there was one (a monk from there) in A3 - Aerie of the Slave Lords

OSR What is the Newest OSR Game Now?

Yeah. There's also Iron Falcon (yet another 0D&D clone) and Beyond the Wall and Other Adventures got a new edition, And supposedly the Myth & Magic (a 2e based game) send out the PDF of the rules (sans art) to backers (after a lengthy disappearance) Crypts & Things is also getting a new...

Published Adventures - How Many Do You Own?

Lots and lots. Almost all the 3.x DCCs, most classic TSR modules (not the rarities), all the adventures from Green Ronin and most from Necromancer for 3.x, a smattering of Troll Lord stuff, a bunch of other third party stuff. Missed that monkey god stuff. And that's for D&D. I have have every...
