Check Out The Cover of Swords of the Serpentine From Pelgrane

People climbing without gloves always bothers me, though not as much as people using ropes (especially sliding down them) without gloves. Also, very strange right hand. Looks like her thumb is on the right side of it

Worlds of Design: “I Hate Dice Games”

It's funny though, when I was a kid, my friends and I actually introduced dice to playing with toy guns, because otherwise it always devolved into "I hit you", "No you didn't"

Starter Traveller (Classic circa 1980's) is free at DTRPG

Even then though, it was essentially optional. You can just choose to have it be a career ending injury forcing an early exit after only 2 years of the term. Anyway, one of the most puzzling things in gaming is why Marc Miller keeps putting out versions of Traveller that almost no one actually...

Today's The Last Day Of Voting For The Most Anticipated Tabletop RPGs Of 2019!

So much on that list are retreads - either new versions of old games, new games based on IP that already had games, or deluxe versions. With that said, the one I'm looking forward to is pretty much that, Paladin using Pendragon for Charlemagne instead of Arthur. But I've always thought that...

Need idea about player spaceship landing on planets

In Star Trek, the smaller ships like Voyager and that Bird of Prey from the movies would land on a planet sometimes. But they probably shouldn't. Planets are dirty. Space is pretty clean. You'd put a lot of wear on a ship landing on planets, even with anti-gravity, just by exposing it to the...

Big Changes At White Wolf Following Controversy

I've always found it distasteful when supernatural explanations are given to horrors created solely by humanity itself. Because it is minimizing things by blaming it on something not real, and not humanity, where the blame belongs. If you want to do that, maybe apply it to natural disasters...

Promotional/Publisher Posts: We're Trying Something New

I would hope there is a limit to how much a person can bump their thread without anyone else posting. And how they are bumped. (See the Frog God posts here for an example of what is really annoying)

John Wick Presents Lays Off 7th Sea Staff

If you read the intro to Return to the Tomb of Horrors, EGG was chagrined that people actually found ToH fairly easy in play, both in his own game and at tournaments.

Worlds of Design: Fantasy vs. Sci-Fi Part 1

This gets said a lot, but Star Trek is almost literally The Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea (which from from '64 to '68) in space, and shares very little in common with Wagon Train.

Stranger Things Companion Book Features D&D Character Sheets

It looks like B/X D&D, except it has "Lawful Good" in the alignment (whereas it just used Chaotic-Lawful-Neutral) and the xp total is 6,500, which is 4th level for Clerics (though that would be in all versions, I think)

Do your Political Views shape how your villains and heroes act?

Well, in a sense. As I lean libertarian, I am perfectly okay with groups of armed people killing others in self defense and not calling them "murder hobos", because I believe there is a difference between murder and justified homicide. And most my villains tend to be lawful types.

    "DnDSports": Competitive Play With Prizes

I really don't understand why this is controversial. Competitive D&D has literally existed from almost the beginning. Maybe not the 1-2 years of it's early life, but in the mid 70s. It's like all the hand wringing over the thief....

Angels and Horrors in Basic D&D (Rules Cyclopedia)

Eh, I think BECMI (and B/X) should be separate from AD&D. While they may have added Orcus and Demogorgon, they weren't the AD&D Orcus and Demogorgon and were very minor players compared to Nyx or Alphaks

Looking for Indiana Jones-esque RPGs, books, media

There were a few Indiana Jones RPGs. I liked the final one from WEG, which adapted the D6 system to it. The old marvel Indiana Jones comic book was pretty good. But really, one of the best source material is the Uncle Scrooge comics. He made his fortune prospecting and always liked to go on...

The Compleat Alchemist by Stephan Sechi and Steven Cordobano for Bard Games

Of course, the thing is, the Alchemist usually got someone gullible to pay for it.

    Pathfinder's Runelords Are Returning!

This is actually one of those things that I wonder about Pathfinder and Adventure Paths in general...what do the PCs in them do after finishing the adventure path. Just retire? In this case, if the villains of the first PF AP come back, why wouldn't the PCs, too?

Starfinder New System Reference Docs for Pathfinder & Starfinder

So basically they are giving up on the OGL (and supporting 3rd parties) and letting a fan site handle it? I mean, I realize they hadn't updated the official PRD in ages and ages, but at least it was in theory a tool for 3rd parties to use. (Yes, I realize the game is still OGL, but I mean no...

Kickstarter Richard A. Knaak's Rex Draconis RPG - Rising Tides KICKSTARTER LIVE!

It's funny, he's written 3 of my favorite novels - King of the Grey, Frostwing, and The Janus Mask (first two modern fantasy, the second pseudo-historical) and yet all that apparently has been commercial successful are his Dragonance and other books for hire, plus Dragon-derived stuff.

    Welcome to The Witcher RPG

Steep learning curve? It's a pretty simple system, the original incarnation of it was like a 20 page book in the Cyberpunk boxed set.

    Pathfinder 2E PF2 Peeves

To me this makes no sense, because thieves came into existence in what, 1975? And came about almost immediately as a reaction of players who wanted a character who could do thief like stuff, which EGG then picked up and added to the game. The supposed "golden age" of RPGs where skills never...
