If you had to cut one element from the D&D game...

Divine/arcane magic distinction. There have been made so many "fixes" to that system divide that I don't really like the result. I like the solution in AU/AE better.

Worst miniature paint job evAr! Get it off the table!

I'd probably laugh out loud on seeing that miniature - I find it hilarious - but afterwards tell the player that he should use a different one, because I cannot really keep up a mood of danger in the presence of something like that. Hehe, thanks for sharing that masterpiece :D.

Has Enworld ever made a giant group campaign setting?

That Eyros setting actually sounds like a lot of fun. Somehow, I completely missed it. I'm also surprised about the names, which don't suck at all, unlike in many homebrews and published settings.

    Best of Necromancer?

Best of Necromancer? That's hard. Too many great choices. Let's stick to ten :D: Crucible of Freya (with Wizard's Amulet :)) Tomb of Abysthor The Grey Citadel Vault of Larin Karr Lost City of Barakus Hall of the Rainbow Mage Book of Taverns Eldritch Sorcery Wilderlands of High Fantasy Shades of...

Necromancer Games shutting down next year.(UPDATE post 93)

I wait for the first one to accuse Bill of disturbing this moment of tragic drama :D;). I'm still looking forward to quite a few releases of the next year :).

Are there "board gaming groups" just like there are RPG-gaming groups?

I get to play board games more often than RPGs. My best friends are big board game nuts, and we often meet at their house to play board games. They have several hundred different ones. In principle, board games are more of a family activity. I'd say that it's typically parents plus children who...

LoTR: One Book To Rule Them All?

I'm still not sure why Tolkien managed to get to the place where he is now. It might be partially due to the fact that, from the very beginnings, his work got promoted by educational institutions, and this in a time where the fantasy genre was considered "rubbish for the masses". In Germany, his...

LoTR: One Book To Rule Them All?

I think the classical example for fantasy works labeled as "derivative of Tolkien" is Terry Brooks' 'The Sword of Shannara'. Here is what you will find on Wikipedia about it: "The plot of the 'Sword of Shannara' has drawn criticism for being overly derivative of the The Lord of the Rings...

SW saga edition overview at WotC

I don't think that there's a problem with tracking those points. I don't know why the reputation mechanics got the boot (does anyone know the answer?), but I'm no fan of lots of (often mostly useless) mini-skills, and the wound mechanic is appropriate to a certain style of play, which doesn't...

Has D&D gotten better because of it's computer spawns? (balders gate, etc.)

Well, Baldur's Gate got me interested in D&D in the first place :). I think that computer games might have had an influence on some mechanics decisions. In computer games that mirror D&D mechanics, it gets quickly obvious when certain combat mechanics are better than others. It's also obvious...

    The Ramayana as an Adventure

That would be great, although I don't think that playing a story is very satisfying. But something similar to the Ramayana should be truly epic. As most players probably don't know the story, an attempt to replay it would probably be futile, anyway. Which is good ;). It would be interesting to...

    2007 Judge Selection

See, and I always thought you got your name from telling your game stories to trees because they cannot run away :). Sorry, I don't mean that, but I thought the connotation was too good to not to tell. ;)

SW saga edition overview at WotC

I already suggested pitfalls in shopping centers, but nobody listened. They probably have to stretch the program, compared to the original planning, by two months more, due to the shift of the release date.

    FFG - Recommendations

FFG actually sold all their hard- and softcovers for $5 a piece some time ago. That's where I got most of them from.

Cast your vote for the ENnies Judges starting Monday!

How many ranks will we be allowed to assign? The full 19, or 5, or some other number? I just ask so I know how many ranking decisions I will have to make :).

You Don't Talk Shop at the Dinner Table

Heh, I was so used to talk about removed intestines and whether they were sufficiently flushed or not during lunch break that I had to be reminded that not everyone likes that as conversation at the table :D.
