AU - What's good to play?

Okay, that point goes to you ;). Looks like this confirms the rule that nothing in fantasy gaming is original, but just a more or less clever mix of the same old ingredients.

AU - What's good to play?

Sure, but as has been said above, you can have it all what is usually spread between different classes in one class for the cost of a higher maintenance.

AU - What's good to play?

Well, I don't care much for dog and cat people, either, but I think that at least the sibeccai (dog people) have a cool background. They are a race of awakened animals, awakened by one of the other player races. This can have very interesting implications for the game. Of course, this doesn't...

    Dragonmarked Review

Thanks for the review. I use Eberron just as a mine for my own stuff, and I had high hopes for Dragonmarked, because I love the concept: Something like AU's Runechildren, but bound to some guild-like organization, what is not to like? Well, if it doesn't make sense mechanically, it will probably...

What do you find most Magical about 3E/3.5 art?

Not only dragons, although this falls in the "static" category ;): I'm not sure. Sometimes, there are pieces that make my mind wander, and that's what art is for. I remember that first "Circle of Storm" (Eberron) adventure in Dungeon, where the intro illustration made me want to go there...

Is D&D magic purely Vancian? Let's settle this.

Indeed! As is Planet of Adventure, even though it's supposedly sci-fi.

What RPG product(s) of 2007 are you looking forward to?

I'm looking forward to getting my hands on the new Star Wars RPG. Other than that, new books have a hard time convincing me that it's a good thing to buy them.

Is D&D magic purely Vancian? Let's settle this.

I don't think that those two aspects are as connected as you suggest. I'm in the same boat: I like fantasy RPGs, but there's hardly any fantasy literature that makes me want to read it.

Is D&D magic purely Vancian? Let's settle this.

The word is definitely a good fit. When I saw D&D magic the first time, it immediately reminded me of the older Jack Vance stories. It's the only place where I personally found something like it. But you can always see yourself. The stories that inspired the D&D magic system are both very short...

Should potions of longevity be put back in the game?

I don't mind that potion. Personally, I'd probably make it very rare and the recipe hard or impossible to come by. But I don't think that the necessity for that potion would ever come up in one of my games. In principle, I prefer the approach of becoming a mojh like in AU. It's not as drastic...

    D20 Fantasy Mini-Settings

You are right. I forgot about it, because I never read the setting proper. Okay, then two others: The Village of Briarton The Broken Isles (technically also for a setting, but that has not materialized yet)

Homebrews - Stealing the best - what to steal?

It's still available here or here Edit: Doesn't help much if you're in England, though.

Oblivion for PC. How is it?

A "Yes" to the first sentence. A "No" to the second one. There are quite a lot of people who loved Morrowind and who hate Oblivion with passion. Oblivion is technically vastly superior to Morrowind. Unfortunately, it's also soulless and boring. YMMV, and so on.

Eric Noah, post in this thread. Everyone else stay out.

Isn't there a little bit of Eric Noah in all of us?

    Against the Giants 3.5?

I agree. Old maps being converted is definitely not a sufficient hint at an upcoming conversion. Many maps from old TSR products have been showing up in the map column up to now.

The popularity of monsters - part II

I'm a bit surprised to find the Purple Worm on that list. I always thought it was one of the most popular monsters in that range.

    Against the Giants 3.5?

Just tell your print driver to fit the map to a page. Or resize it, if you want a size different from one page.

    Sweet Cover Art?

Cool stuff in this thread :). For non-d20, I still have a soft spot for the old Runequest 2nd. edition cover: I also love Frazettas :): Monte already mentioned Spell Treasury. But I also loved the cover for Mystic Secrets. I still love the cover of Arcana Unearthed with its effect...
