    The tragedy of 4th edition.

Hmm. The longer you have played D&D, the more bite marks you have collected? I guess I will have a closer look at diaglo if I ever meet him.

What are the big non-d20/non-D&D Game Systems?

Don't forget that the nWoD has also the basic "Mortals" line, which you can use for normal low power horror adventures without PCs as monsters (as an aside: Hunter: The Vigil will also be a human-centric line). Vampire is still very popular, Werewolf is pretty much dead in the water, and Mage is...

    The tragedy of 4th edition.

Just to come back to the original post, that's nothing new. The Star Wars Saga Edition book also contained examples of play that were based on old rules that had long been replaced by something else. Editing of WotC books went downhill a couple of years ago.

Out of Print games You Miss...

Well, some of this is still available: Thieves' Guild (everything available except the basic boxed set) Haven: The Free City Personally, I don't really have any games I'm looking back to, because I never got to know the old stuff.

"Lorraine Williams Scenario" Forked Thread: from Death of the LGS

Right you are. I could have sworn that the table looked different this morning, but now it says so. That leaves me to say that the cut looks artificial to me, if you look at the distribution of the power sources. Anyway, as usual, the perception of how things are done are more important than...

"Lorraine Williams Scenario" Forked Thread: from Death of the LGS

Oh, I understand what "Lorraine Williams" meant. I don't think that the current business decisions are necessarily bad, either. They alienated me, but I don't take myself as so important that my personal decision not to buy 4e would influence WotC's bottom line in any way. This would only be the...

"Lorraine Williams Scenario" Forked Thread: from Death of the LGS

I didn't advocate a move to release everything at once. I think I made it clear that I would see that as dumb. On the other hand, I don't see that releasing a set of three new core books every year is the only viable business model, either. We will see next year how much of this "essential core"...

"Lorraine Williams Scenario" Forked Thread: from Death of the LGS

This is getting tiresome. It's not my definition. It's WotC's definition. The next set of PHB/DMG/MM, due next year, with everything in there, is core. You will see part of the core next year. Another part the year after. And so on. If you want to redefine the term "core", you are free to do...

"Lorraine Williams Scenario" Forked Thread: from Death of the LGS

Well, a pure gamer decision would be to release everything at once. The big dream come true. That doesn't make business sense, but that's what I would see as gamer decision. I don't see any gaming-related decision that would lead to withholding part of the core for later years.

Non-D&D game books for D&D games

I think there are countless gaming books out there that you can use for D&D. Even much maligned systems like the Palladium one have sourcebooks you can use, like Library of Bletherad or Baalgor Wastelands.

"Lorraine Williams Scenario" Forked Thread: from Death of the LGS

Well, according to the makers of 4e, you will see the next part of the core some time next year. It's their own definition that I follow here, so it doesn't depend on my own or yours. I didn't make any value statement in my last post. I agree with you that businesses that are led with pure...

"Lorraine Williams Scenario" Forked Thread: from Death of the LGS

I would give a split answer to this question. The game itself (the mechanics, flavor, etc.) is definitely in the hands of gamers. I would put all of the main game designers of 4e in this category. As far as the distribution model goes (like spreading the former core essentials over several...

Would you Swap 3.5e for Exalted?

As far as marketing goes, this thread is "EXALTED" enough.

Would you Swap 3.5e for Exalted?

I guess so. Also, it's probably the longest Exalted thread on this forum ever ;). The game wasn't really much talked about recently anymore.

Exalted vs D&D. The battlelines are drawn!

There's a thread about this in this forum. A few lines further down.

Would you Swap 3.5e for Exalted?

As I said, the promotion itself is a game. People don't really value free stuff that much. I don't mean some additional freebies to something you bought - you have already expressed your interest by buying the product in the first place. But giving out whole core books for free without making...

Would you Swap 3.5e for Exalted?

This doesn't make sense. Sure, they talk about 4e. But realistically, they will target people who intend to switch to 4e, anyway, because those are the ones who will part with their 3.5 PHBs easily. There's not much harm done in this case. Well, I still enjoy it, and that's why I won't take...

Would you Swap 3.5e for Exalted?

    Just look, here's the diploma: http://download.white-wolf.com/download/download.php?file_id=951 That's hilarious :D.

Would you Swap 3.5e for Exalted?

Why? This looks like the perfect place. And there will be enough 3.5 PHBs left from people who wanted to switch to 4e, anyway. Regarding Exalted, I'm not a big fan. The system is very complicated (in principle ideal for someone coming from 3.5 ;)), but the setting is very cool.

Who still doesn't have a horse in this race?

At the moment, I'm not in a hurry to change to 4e. I might look at it when all the core classes have been published (in one or two years?). There's no immediate need, as I'm still in the middle of using 3.5 stuff and other games at the moment. Some very general updates, yes. Plus, of course...
