    D&D 4E Merric's thoughts on 4e

Well, the most successful CRPG on D&D basis of the last years featured a tiefling as one of the main party members, and it was well accepted. I didn't like it, but I'm well aware that I'm in the minority in this regard. But you should recognize that there's a bit more to the decision to include...

    German-themed game resources

If you ever reconsider the time frame you are aiming at, I'll suggest looking at the high medieval time. Ars Magica is set in one of the sweet spots (around 1220) for D&D-like adventures in this area.

    German-themed game resources

Try this. The title "Louis the German" was not used prior to the 19th century. He was referred to as "rex germanorum" in West-Franconian sources, though. Anyway, for the RPG, I'd go with WFRP, as hong and others suggested. I find more interesting RPG topics in earlier times, but that was not...

    German-themed game resources

I know about the concept of "nation". However, the term was used, and the notion that the idea of a cultural entity called "Germany" did not exist during that time is simply wrong. The notion of Germany and a German kingdom has been established perhaps in the 10th century, but definitely from...

    German-themed game resources

Just a nitpick: Since 1512, it has officially been named "The Holy Roman Empire of the German Nation", which means that the concept of a German nation was obviously alive during the time in question, and actually already a long time before that. I agree with trying to stick with some local...

Another name for the Warlord: Ayran

I like to have ayran with my kebab. Ayran is a mixture of yoghurt, water and salt, popular from the Balkans over the Middle East to Central Asia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ayran

    What's wrong with Mini-Centric?

I find nearly all minis ugly. As simple as that. Plus, I don't like the random sales model. I don't buy stuff like that out of principle. I don't spend lots of money on singles, and I hate painting. That should answer the question ;). That said, I use counters for visualization, if necessary. I...

    Let Warlord be Warlord

Which means whoever chooses the warlord class is automatically the party leader and can give everyone else commands? Sounds silly, but we already have a class like that (though not in the core), and I don't like that one, either. Which means that I find the name dumb, because of its...

    So...this is the new Ettercap?:(

Sorry, but I don't see a single thing that reminds me of a spider here.

    D&D 4E The Great d20 Books that shaped 4E

Most racial levels in AE will nevertheless raise your caster level, so it's not that different. The so-called "replacement levels" that you can exchange for normal class levels were introduced in "Transcendence" for AE. Written by Mike Mearls ;).

Do you mix high fantasy and sci-fi?

I like the mix. A few stun grenades are used up quickly, and a blaster rifle will stop working soon. End of episode.

    Pathfinder 1E Paizo vs Amazon.com

I have the feeling that amazon gets worse and worse in this regard. I had a Necromancer book (a White Wolf one, not one of the others), and this arrived just now after half a year wait (last delivery estimate was January 2008). But it's not only RPGs. I've been waiting for three DVD sets since...

Jon Tweet - Magic Item Creation

This thread should be moved to the Rules Forum. Regarding the tone of the discussion, it would feel right at home there. I like the column. Yes, the item creation rules work. No, I don't particularly like them, because they are clunky.

    Why is there no dwarf-hate?

So that's another thing they have in common with Scots?

    Tiefling Tables

In good old Traveler tradition, rolling up a tiefling should include death during character creation.

What Angers Me Most About 4th Edition

That's nothing. Just think of all the dust when all my 3.x books will disintegrate next May. I will need a wheelbarrow for that mess.

When was the Player's Handbook sent off for Printing?

Who needs editing? That would just spoil the sales of the second printing.

D&D 4E Chris Perkins on Forgotten Realms 4e

I can't see that, either. It has the further advantage that they will be able to make another clean sweep 5 years from now, with exactly the same rationale ;).

I don't think this entry contained anything new.
