I would think that just because you are familiar with something doesn't mean you can use it properly. I'm familiar with airplanes, I see them practically every day, but I wouldn't want to try piloting one without lots of training :eek: .

Sure, you might not go aroud killing slave owners and freeing their slaves, but any wealth you have might be spent towards buying and freeing slaves and getting them to a country where slavery is illegal.

No, it's not fluff. I use it to introduce homebrew feats and feats from books my players don't have. This gives them options they wouldn't have otherwise, but they don't have to take the feats if they don't want to.

Occasionally I will give a book as treasure that if the instructions are followed grant a feat. However the PCs can only take it when they qualify for a feat normally, they don't get it as a bonus feat.

Actually thats pretty close to what I had in mind :) . It seems to me that 2 or more bodies that are flanking an enemy might get a greater than +2 bonus because you are getting a 360 degree view of the target.

I believe the feat you're looking for is called Energy Substitution. It's in Tome and Blood, p. 40. Basically when you take this feat you choose a type of energy like sonic for example, and you can then modify damage causing spells of any sort to do sonic damage instead of their normal type...
