Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2e: Actual Play Experience

I have three games going, one with 14 sessions in (hitting level 6 now), one with about 8 sessions in (hitting level 4 in that group) and a third group playing starting at level 12 and about 3 sessions in (no advancement yet). My top five takes so far as the GM: 1. CR -4/+4 to party level is...

What are the most compelling reasons to switch from PF 1 to PF 2?

I'll keep my reasons simple. I ran PF1E from day one to 2014 then took a break and went to 5E. I ran some more 1E last year with a good group for a bit. Adopting 5E for me boils down to this: 1. I have minimal prep time to GM and I am the only GM for the group. Pathfinder 2E maximizes my prep...

    Pathfinder 2 GM Experience

Yep. As an example: there's like a half-page, one bar section on running encounters in combat in the abstract (theater of the mind) style, with a description of how to do it. That tiny side text section right there is literally all I need to get my more rules-minded players on board with how to...

    Pathfinder 2 GM Experience

I've been running Pathfinder 2E exclusively since it came out between two groups. One group is hitting level 6 now from weekly play; another group is just hitting level 4, and there is a bi-weekly group which started at level 12 and is about four sessions in. So far, it's been a far easier GM...

    Pathfinder 2E Rate Pathfinder 2E

This here is pretty key. In PF2E it's pretty clear that most threats which are above or below 4 CRs from the PCs will either be trivial or deadly. If trivial....let the players tell you how they solve the issue. If deadly, let the players know they are about to die and should consider plan B.

    Pathfinder 2E Rate Pathfinder 2E

It is possible they realize they can't compete with 5E in that market, and are trying for the slightly smaller market of people like me who want a system with a bit more teeth to it, but which still is designed for ease of access. I'm loving Pathfinder precisely because it's closer to my...

    Pathfinder 2E Rate Pathfinder 2E

I ranked it excellent, though I have some caveats to that. Pros: 1. 3 action economy grows on you and feels very natural 2. Combat works great with TotM play 3. it is super GM friendly 4. I like the DM mechanic and the easy way things scale 5. Lots and lots of minor revisions and tweaks in...

    D&D General The Sales of D&D vs. AD&D vs. AD&D 2nd Edition

@Mistwell back in the early eighties my distinct recollection was that everyone played B/X except me (although I did start with it) and I was the "guy who had the AD&D books," ergo I was the cool DM. As I recall, by mid eighties no one seemed to play it anymore, having graduated to other games...

D&D General WotC Asks What Makes YOU Play Dungeons and Dragons?

So true! I have gamed with at least one person who spoke to me earnestly about how he liked the design quality of Warhammer Fantasy because it was so inspired by World of Warcraft. Thankfully it turns out the muscles in your eyes don't let you eye roll so hard you can injure yourself.....

D&D General WotC Asks What Makes YOU Play Dungeons and Dragons?

In defense of GW: they were in the business of selling other companies' products, an overseas distributor more than anything else. Eventually they decided they wanted to shift to their own product, and Warhammer Fantasy 1st edition RPG was the product. That original boxed set owed a lot to FRPGs...

D&D General WotC Asks What Makes YOU Play Dungeons and Dragons?

I picked Unearthed Arcana because, at the end of the day, it's always been the weird potpourri of stuff that stood out for me.

D&D General WotC Asks What Makes YOU Play Dungeons and Dragons?

This survey got me thinking about what a D&D video game would look like using the engine that powers Horizon: Zero Dawn or Days Gone. I'd play that!

WotC Brand New D&D Video Game from WotC's New Acquisition Tuque Games

Well, Livelock was okay but my son and I both lost interest quickly. On the plus side, it shows that Tuque Games can make and complete a video game, so .....yayyyyy? That said, world-weary pessimism aside, I am excited at the notion of another D&D video game! I mean, if we can have 1,000 spin...

D&D 3.x Jonathan Tweet: Streamlining Third Edition

You are both right here. AD&D 2nd Edition had level limits baked in, but there was a lengthy optional chapter in the DMG which talked about ways to circumvent them. These included removing the limits (with a paragraph or two on what that would look like), making the limits uncapped but cost...

Nice.....! I shall now patiently wait for (hopefully) some print Pathfinder 2E content!

RPG Evolution: RPGs Have a Health Problem

I work in the medical insurance industry in the US and can assert that it's a horrifying mess. This is a bipartisan issue, beyond the ability of either political party to fix easily. At a bare minimum we need serious regulation on medical costs aimed at hospitals and big pharma. That would be a...

    How Expensive is Too Expensive?

I'm one of two people who always buy the games at my game table (and both myself and the other guy also regularly GM). One of my players gets his books through me as hand-me-downs. The other (my wife) buys just the books we play. The rest of the table does not appear to be invested in the...

    Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2E Errata

I would need to find some new hobbies if I held RJK75's standards. On the plus side I'd be wealthier, but on the downside I'd have to shy away from tabletop gaming, computer gaming and most all forms of media fiction.

Pathfinder 2E Pathfinder 2E Conversion Guide

Accepting that Pathfinder 1E and Pathfinder 2E are two very different games, even if they have surface level similarities, is the first step. I'm with CapnZapp on this: the best approach to conversion is to finish out a PF1E campaign and start fresh with a PF2E campaign. I'm quite enjoying PF...

D&D 5E (2014) That Eberron Cover Is Just A Placeholder

I don't get the cover image hate (it looks fine to me), but the fact that there is such hate and WotC is responding to it is good. Odds are I'll like whatever the new cover is, too.
