    Bring back alignments?

Well, the Essentials Paladin does. And maybe the Blackguard as well? I don't recall on that one.

Using DosBox and SSI's games to Play DnD Modules

Yeah, that troll fight is a nasty one. That and some outdoor battle against a zillion kobolds (or were they goblins?) is about all I remember from PoR.

    Bring back alignments?

No, and they're still around in any case. Although I would have chosen different alignments to get rid of in 4e, or gotten rid of them altogether. Personally I find that allegiance systems are a much better role-playing tool than alignment ever was. IME, alignments were used as a straightjacket...

    Thief and the Seer theme

The level 1 theme power is a bonus. It doesn't replace anything.

    Is D&D "about" combat?

Is D&D about combat? Sometimes. The rules tend to point to combat being one of the main focuses of the game, as that's where they tend to spend the most effort. Is D&D exclusively about combat? Not for me. I think these days we can appreciate that different people enjoy different aspects of the...

Neverwinter CG contains four new Warpriest (diety-based) domains

The Corellon... domain? I wonder why they didn't call it the fey or elf domain instead of being so deity-specific. Certain it's a perfect fit for elven warpriests, who will have the bow proficiency to make the most use of the at-will (and, I am guessing, the encounter & daily prayers as well).

    Zero to Hero!

To me, death saves are not a safety net. A safety net might be, you're unconscious and immune to damage until healed. Not, you're unconscious and you have three chances to roll 10+, or you're dead. The death save is an additional avenue for character death, not a bulwark against it, and one more...

    Take 10

You are correct, but this was always a common source of confusion in my group when playing 3e.

    Zero to Hero!

For a "zero", give each character one hybrid class. With no daily power, so they get 1 at-will and 1 encounter. No feats (aside from the human bonus feat). 1/2 or 1/4 the starting gold. When they hit level 1, they get the rest of the class and the level 1 feat.

Classic D&D tropes you've never mastered

Outdoor exploration and travel. I've just never figured out a way to make those activities come alive, aside from throwing in some random encounters.

    Borders Bankruptcy Liquidation

I will miss the store, especially the one in San Diego's Mission Valley. But I don't expect to visit the store before it closes. When our downtown Borders liquidated some months ago, we went when everything was 20-40% off. I looked at some D&D books that were on my wishlist, and then left them...

    Zero to Hero!

It seems strange to be putting all of this import on PCs getting dropped by one hit, when that is really only possibly in earlier editions for one level (or two for the low-hp classes). I suppose in AD&D it could go on for longer if you had really bad luck with hit point rolls, but in practice I...

Statblocks vs adventures: Where's the balance?

Well, in AD&D at least, didn't the monsters had six separate saving throws instead of three? From what I remember they saved as fighters. Personally I'm not a fan of table lookups (screen or no screen); I want my monster info in one easily-understandable place. Any time I have to look somewhere...

    Zero to Hero!

Eh, as others have mentioned, the monsters are scaled up, too. Relatively, the PCs aren't much better off than they were before. The PCs can just survive more than 1-2 hits, which IMO is an improvement. There's little room for exploration when a single bad roll can kill you. A level 1 PC in 4e...

    Spider-Man Teaser

Nope. The original origin was pretty much just like what was in the first Spider-Man movie - although the spider was radioactive, not genetically engineered, and Peter was the only one of his classmates there.

Clerics (Templars) not proficient with shields?

Hmm, I wonder if they accidentally copied some of the text from the e-cleric (who does get shield prof, I believe) into the redone PHB-cleric writeup.

Player 1 'grabs and pulls' player 2, then claims it's 'Forced movement, no AtOp'

Using a standard action to move another PC 2-3 squares doesn't sound like a very useful tactic, OAs or not. It is indeed. As an example, when a bard uses Majestic Word to heal someone, he/she can slide the target, which is a type of forced movement. There's quite a lot of effects that allow one...

    Battlemind, Seeker, and Runepriest

Seeker - bloodbond seekers get bows / crossbows and can upgrade to superior versions. Spiritbond seekers get javelins and really have nothing good to upgrade to. It also pigeonholes the spiritbond seeker into using spears, which is limiting thematically.

    Bladesinger Preview!

Hmm, I suppose that means that we aren't getting all-purpose expertise/focus feats. Bummer for the bladesinger, who has to choose between boosting the at-will melee attacks or the daily implement attacks. Too bad for them that they can't use staves. I really don't understand WotC's reluctance...

    Bladesinger Preview!

I wonder if this means we will finally see a dual-use weapon/implement expertise and focus feats in the Neverwinter book... Or if the bladesinger has to take 4 feats to cover its melee and implement attacks. Why does the blade count as a wand, in addition to being usable as an implement?
