D&D Essentials Live in Character Builder!

All that time and they introduced some new bugs into the equipment functionality. Quartertaffs cannot be wielded in two hands, preventing one from getting the bonus from the Staff Fighting feat. Superior Ki Focuses are off-hand items instead of ki focus items. Equipping them in the off-hand...

    Question Re: Warden's Fury.

My impression is that the warden is on one side of the dragon, and the paladin and mage are on the other. The dragon is marked by the paladin, and so when it breathes, the paladin mark would not activate, as the breath would be hitting the paladin. So in this case, the warden can run up, mark...

    Why can't Hybrid Warden/Shaman use Shields? D:

As mentioned, hybrids only get armor proficiencies that are common to both classes. They do, however, get the weapon and implement proficiencies of both classes combined.

Help me optimize a House Sivis (Eberron) gnome illusionist.

Ah, that's right. I suppose that covers most of the ritual needs as well.

Help me optimize a House Sivis (Eberron) gnome illusionist.

I would pick a background that gives you Bluff as a class skill, or a feat like the bard MC one. Sadly there doesn't seem to be a bard MC feat that gives a skill training and Ritual Caster, that would be perfect. If language is important, shouldn't he have Linguist?

Dark Sun Creature Catalog: Damage Inflation

They (thankfully) fully divorced monster & equipment stats from monster attacks around the time of MM2. Requiring that a monster's weapon attack "makes sense" is part of what was keeping monster damage too low in high-heroic and in paragon, IMO. If I'm building a monster that uses weapons, I...

    D&D 4E Simple 4e newbie question

Well, he wouldn't because you can't do that. :) He could trade one standard for one minor, or one move for one minor. As for why he has two attacks that do the same thing but require different actions, perhaps it's just tradition. Basic melee attacks are (almost?) always standard action attacks...

When you can push an opponent on hit because of 2 reasons

I would say the result would be push 1 (Forceful Opportunist) + push 1 (Longhand Student) + push 1 (polearm master) + prone (polearm momentum) + str damage (Draconic Arrogance) = Str mod damage + push 3 + prone. I wouldn't apply Draconic Arrogance more than once on the same attack, myself - It's...

    Expertise

I plan to still give versatile expertise for free at 5th level. If players want to take the Essential expertise feats as well, they can. The bonuses don't stack, but the Essential feats are still worthwhile since they give their bonus sooner and have that extra benefit.

D&D 4E Running player commentary on Sanzuo's 4e Dark Sun campaign

Sounds like an epic battle against the id fiend! I'm curious about the mechanics of the race. Did anyone try to use bull rush, and to what effect? It strikes me that, given the limitations on grab, knocking a racer prone would be much more effective, but I don't think there's a way to do that...

    New Essentials Builds!

Sure, but it comes with the cost of taking (half of your max hit points) damage.

D&D & Comic Books Share A Similar Problem

Huh? Kids don't want to play in good-guys-save-the-world stories? Is it just some freak accident that all of the races and creatures (and even a class) from LotR ended up in D&D? Are you familiar with the general formula in genre fantasy fiction? Have you seen Dragonlance? Forgotten Realms? 2nd...

D&D 3.x (3.5) Problem player and campaign issues

As Nimloth said, welcome to high-level D&D. It sounds like you have a few problems. 1) is inherent to where you are in the game. The PCs can dish out tons of damage but can't really take it. Monsters have tons of HD and crazy saves but not enough actions. Buffs become an incredible edge in...

D&D 4E Running player commentary on Sanzuo's 4e Dark Sun campaign

I love it! I would give more XP to Iron Sky but the system won't let me. :(

Help with creating a DS character :)

A star-pact warlock seems most appropriate. Or vestige pact. Or a cosmic sorcerer. Or a telepath psion. I would say good themes would be escaped slave (from Dragon), wasteland nomad, or wilder.

    PE: Assassin Spoilers

Unlike the original 4e classes, the Essential assassin's at-will attacks are special tricks that the assassin can whip out when the situation is right, not his bread-and-butter attacks. Like the Essential fighter and rogue, the assassin's mainstay is the basic attack.

    PE: Assassin Spoilers

I have to agree with tyrlaan that there are noticeable differences in the theme of each power source. Divine powers are typically radiant, sometimes thunder or fire, and have a heavy leader component regardless of class role. Arcane powers have a strong controller component. Shadow powers (at...

    Issue with Character Builder

I don't know if you got this fixed or not, but... I seem to recall that you had to completely uninstall the demo version before installing the full version. If you're still having trouble, I would suggest posting in the 4e forum or on Wizard's site.

Older Editions and "Balance" when compared to 3.5

Older editions were not really balanced at all, and you didn't have to be a power gamer or look for exploits to take advantage of that. From my personal experience, I would say that balance issues didn't crop up all the time because most everyone at the table knew what the sub-standard character...

    D&D 4E Dark Sun 4E - Defilers?

And then you explain to them that if you had not defiled, they would have died, and which is more important - survival or this small patch of desert that they will never see again? Going back to the 2e setting, the only PC type that was obligated to hate defilers is druids. Sure, the peasants...
