Board games you own and would recommend

Apples to Apples is fun, but does grow kind of tiresome after a while. Darth Vader and Batman are basically trump cards if my brother or I are the judging player. If Hitler was a possible card I suspect he'd be a trump too, just cause it could result in some terrifically tasteless descriptions.

    Games you've bought recently?

My wife recently bought me Gloom and Munchkin Cthulu for my birthday. Munchkin is always a good time, though I think the Cthulu set is underpowered compared to Star, Super, Fu, etc. Gloom is amusing, but we haven't quite played enough games for me to decide if it's actually really good.

[Anime] Since no one else is talking about this...

Metalocalypse, Frisky Dingo, and Robot Chicken are the best Adultswim has to offer? Bleh. Metalocalypse has some good music and was amusing for about one episode. Frisky Dingo is just kind of strange (sort of like Birdman, Sealab, and co. but not as funny). Robot Chicken is funny about once an...

    Proposed fix for spellcaster multiclassing

While I can appreciate what this thread is trying to accomplish, I think I agree with Dannyalcatraz in that I see multiclassing and the loss of casters' abilities as a feature they're willingly giving up to gain the abilities of some other class. Yeah, it sucks when your wizard 5/ fighter 15...

Feats that Should Be Skill Tricks

^ I wouldn't go so far as to call the DM incompetent because he doesn't know all the rules concerning attacking and breaking inanimate objects. Some players rarely try these tactics (mine sure don't) so I would not be very quick to answer a player's question about breaking through the wall...

The EN World FREE Character Portrait Request Thread!

I've got a party of four characters that I think could use some neat artwork. 1) Human rogue: About 20, tall, muscular, and handsome. Dark hair and eyes. Wears studded leather and carries a rapier and shortsword combo. Shortbow slung across his back. 2) Human sorceror age 14: Thin and short...

    Misheard Song Lyrics

Oh, Fishmaster. How I love that video. If you look up the real lyrics you'll discover it's straight out of Tokien (Elbereth and Lorien get turned into El Beret and L'oreal) and Dragonlance (Shalafi becomes shalabi). It's awesome.

[Humor] New spells: Filibuster and True Filibuster

I think the filibuster cantrip's duration of 1 minute is just fine. It's the villain's farewell/parting words and shouldn't really take more than that. The Greater Filibuster is just hilarious and may be powerful, but I think it seems balanced. I'm going to have to use these on my players...

    Crab Rides A Gigantic Jellyfish

However, I must say that I immediately knew the aliens you were referring to, so I think I'm just about as geeky. Cheers!

Must Own DVD Movies That Define The Fantasy & SciFi Genres?

I'd have to recommend John Carpenter's "The Thing". The film's definitive in the world of special effects and creepy as all get out. Playing the PS2/Xbox game, which is a sort of sequel to the movie probably helped the movie seem creepier, but I'd still recommend it as a good sci-fi horror...

    Wizards & swords

As much as wizards will generally suck harder than a Hoover in melee combat, I think the idea of a spellcaster with a big sword is just amusing. On a vaguely related note, in my current campaign we've got a gnome barbarian who uses a human sized great axe, thus suffering a -4 penalty to all...

    Clark Peterson on 4E

I'm with Sunderstone on this. If you want to have a sneaky/stealthy type character, why the heck would you play a wizard? With the right selection of spells a wizard can be nigh indetectable, but it only lasts for a while and he needs to prepare for the situation well in advance. Just play a...

    Crab Rides A Gigantic Jellyfish

Wow. I nominate this for geekiest comment of the month. I realize we're all geeks here, but being able to rattle off a couple of obscure Star Wars races? Yowzer. ;)

    Does anyone like class skills?

I still think that limiting cc skills to half the number of ranks for class skills but having all skills cost 1pt./rank allows for story related skill taking a lot more. How many fighters are going to spend 4 skill points at 1st level to give themselves 2 ranks in something like Profession(cook)...

Forked Thread: What would you have done?

My two cents: The party ignored what sounds like some pretty obvious hints about escape routes, that's their problem. However, I do find it reasonable of them to be hesitant to take said escape routes since you, the DM, did just spring a bunch of tough undead on them and they have no way of...

    Does anyone like class skills?

Personally, I like the fix of just having cross class skills capped at half the number of ranks as class skills while allowing ranks to be bought for the same number of points. I know there are tons of times I'd have liked to add a little flavor to a character via ranks in some random skill, but...

    everyone in group taking 'leadership'?

I'm about to start a campaign with only four players, which is lower than our normal 6-7 players, hence the "only 4" part. Last time I ran a game with only 4 players we ended up with a swashbuckler, a fighter who focused on archery, a monk, and a rogue. Zero spellcasting ability. It made things...

Forked Thread: Does Turn Undead need fixing?

However, they also tend to command preexisting undead, which is no longer a factor in this method. I don't like the current 3.5 Turning rules, but I like the command/rebuke power because it allows for some fun strategy.

    daze

Huh. I think I'd make it a 4th level spell initially and test its effectiveness. If the players always pick it once they get to that level, then it's maybe too powerful so you'd want to up the level. I'd have to play with it a little while to see.
