After reading Alas, Babylon last month, I picked up The Postman by David Brin to read earlier this week. It's interesting how close the movie was to the source material, especially considering that the folks who finally made the movie used ideas from the book not knowing that the script writers...

I've only ever applied it to the 'main' series. I mean, I doubt if anyone would claim any of the Gameboy versions as their favorite. ;) Anyway, I still think it's a sound theory. Like anything else there are bound to be exceptions, but I have found far more folks who agree with me than not over...

For the record, a lot of people find the 4E Avengers to be a pretty insulting group of posters. Although, I agreed that it is a term that has no place at ENWorld.

Yeah, but that combat system I was so concerned with at first turned out to be a real gem. best part of the game, IMO. I mean it's not perfect, but it beats the crap out of all other games in that one area.

Well then scratch it all up to the need for corporate profit. Whatever the reason, I doubt we'll see a change in the multiple book design of D&D anytime soon. OTOH, I think with 4e they've pushed the envelope as far in that direction as they can, so it can't get worse, right?... Right?

There is also a free demo on the PSNetwork. I gave it a shot, and while the art is great and it seems like a good story the gameplay just isn't my style. It is worth looking at though.

That's a very interesting observation. Unfortunately, the need to make a profit and pay employees nearly assures that we won't see any drastic course changes.

He picked it for a very good reason. (at least I assume so.) 2008 is not yet over. 'Right now' as you put it, is still happening. 2007 is over and the data is ripe for analysis, it is the most recent 'complete' year.

Fewer pages, sure. But with the layout differences, I'd guess a single page of 1e text would take 2 maybe even 3 pages of a 4e book.
