D&D 5E (2014) So Monks can't actually use Eternal Mountain Defence until two levels after learning it?

This is probably an oversight, but it seems Eternal Mountain Defence is the only Elemental Discipline learnable at 11th level that has a cost of 5 Ki. Which the Monk can't spend until level 13. Somewhat related, but does it feel odd to anybody else that the maximum ki you can spend doesn't...

    D&D 5E (2014) Starter Set pre-gens in PDF?

As an interim solution, you could take the form-fillable character sheet that WotC has posted and fill in the pregens yourself.

Unearthed Arcana OGL and the name "Unearthed Arcana"

Psionic, Epic, and Divine (Deities & Demigods) rules do appear on the WotC SRD. I know several SRDs which present these as part of them. Conversely, I only know one SRD site which includes the Unearthed Arcana rules.

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Q&A: 09/27/2013

I like the human ability modifiers for their simplicity. It's just that I don't like the fact that it makes the humans, as a race, as graceful as elves, as tough as dwarves as strong as dragonborn, etc. The flavour created by the ability score modifiers doesn't suit me and, I suspect, many others.

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Q&A: More Classes/Subclasses, Retraining & Playing Without Subclasses

That's just... agh, I wish they'd be more specific. At least it shouldn't be more than a week until we get the final package and we can start disagreeing on how the rules are instead of disagreeing on how we think they'll end up.

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Q&A: More Classes/Subclasses, Retraining & Playing Without Subclasses

Yeah. If they use classes to determine if you can cast a spell, or take a feat, they will end up with the same kind of duplication for feats and magic items that they were seeing with powers in 4e, where many classes have almost the same power because they can't just share the same one. They'd...

Wedding Knight (and beyond?) Interest Check

I don't have much experience with the system (well, none. I've leafed through the book), but I'l love to get a chance to see how it runs. It's always the best way to really know a system to get a chance to play.

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D Next Q&A: More Classes/Subclasses, Retraining & Playing Without Subclasses

Except that that's not what Mearls said in the latest L&L. I'll quote, and bold the parts that I'm focusing on. Mearls is saying the exact opposite. He's saying that not all Mage classes will share the default casting mechanic, that some sub classes will directly hook into variant casting...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D 5E Kickstarter

I think a smarter thing would be for WotC to kickstart special edition prints of books they're making anyway. Quicker timeframe, and all that.

D&D 5E (2014) New Legend and Lore is up! Magic Systems as DM Modules

You're mixing up Darkfire with some other ability, because it doesn't actually do any damage, fire or otherwise. It's the 4e version of casting Faerie Fire on a creature. Not that it negates everything else that you've said, but the point stuck out to me.

D&D 5E (2014) Parrying and Protecting versus spells and othe rstuff

Another tangential issua relating to Parry and Protect is whether they block other effects of attacks whose damage gets negated fully. In our last playtest, the fighter parried the bite of a giant centipede, and I said he still needed to make a save since there was no language to suggest that...

    BESM (d20 or Tri-stat)

Note that BESM d20 isn't meant to be used with standard BESM. When they talk about putting together the DnD classes, they mean for BESM d20, so you can use the standard DnD classes alongside Magical Girls and Martial Artists and what-have-you. What BESM d20 does, is bolt on the BESM system to...

D&D 4E The Usage of the Non-Sequitur "4e is a Tactical Skirmish Game"

I've personally used it when comparing editions to highlight 4e's high points. But then, I was talking with people who liked 4e as well as previous editions

    Easy metamagic

Well, first, Quicken is +4. But yes, if all your spells were quickened, you would be limited to casting just one spell per round.

Another playtest report, added bits from 2nd and 3rd session

Two more session played. Still overall excited, but we're noticing some niggles. The characters entered the goblin warren, and wisely laid in wait for a moment and managed to ambush the goblin patrol (a sneak attack and a burning hands did the trick). The players didn't get a chance to notice...

Separating Attack and Utility Spell Slots

I voted other for "Provide a module for that" I would guess that a character that has their spells split would have to get one or two more of them to account for the fact that he can't go all combat or all interaction. Heck, I'd love if the spells would be split to Combat, Interaction and...

Attention! You can now run D&D Next games here at ENW's PbP, on Skype, & G+ hangouts

In light of the good news, anybody up to trying to organize a G+ game? I've not yet had the chance to try that avenue, and a chance to be a player for a chance would be nice.

    D&D 5E (2014) I Don't Like Damage On A Miss

My experience is exactly the opposite. In the playtest I DMed, the player of the fighter was extatic once he realized he couldn't fail to kill kobolds. He stopped rolling the attack die, and instead described in detail how he killed each kobold and rat. Group favourite was bodyslamming a kobold...

    Is slashing/bludgeoning/piercing damage even needed?

I would think that it's equally obvious that Burning Hands deals fire damage, and there are only two creatures that interact with the damage type (troll and gray ooze). The gelatinous cube is immune to cold, but I'm not sure there's any way to deal cold damage in the playtest package.

    [Houserule] Longer healing times

In my playtest, I used long rests that restored all lost Hit Dice, but no hit points. So far, so good. Generally speaking, the characters seem to suffer some damage that lasts a bit longer, but it's only a couple of points when they didn't have an extra HD before the long rest or if only one was...
