    [OT] NHL Stanley Cup Finals

I think you're right, but I don't think that's necessarily a good thing, hehe. Like the Yankees, whom I've hated with a passion for quite some time, I'm starting to view the Wings with the same dislike. There's something about buying a Cup that rubs me the wrong way... Therefore, go Canes! :D

Infinate or Limited Potential In Fanatsy?

I agree with what you said about Kalamar, Tsyr. It doesn't really seem like either Grim&Gritty or High Fantasy. I think that rings true for most, if not all of the established settings (barring Harnworld, I think).

Infinate or Limited Potential In Fanatsy?

Hmm, I think it might be safe to say that there's a tendency for GGF and HHF to focus on different aspects of a world. I'm not sure what exactly... heck, I'm not even sure that one could decisively say that (this thing) is the province of Grim&Gritty, or (that thing) is mostly Heroic High...

Infinate or Limited Potential In Fanatsy?

Ken Hood! Thanks hong, I forgot that one! :) I've not taken a look at any modules (ever, heh), so I'm not sure if I could really have any take at the example of RttToEE. But, usually, when I think of things in relation to Grim & Gritty and (Whatever it's opposite is, :D ) I think more in...

Point Buy Method: What is a good number?

I dunno about that... With a 15 in one of the spell-casting attributes, you can cast right up into the 5th level of spells. At fourth level, you can put that up to 16; and at eighth, it can be raised to 17... And so on and so forth. Even with "only" a fifteen, any focused character will be...

Infinate or Limited Potential In Fanatsy?

 And let me repeat that again... That's not unlike me saying that "High/Epic Fantasy" is nothing more than power-hungry player-characters stroking their egos through the subjugation of the NPCs. "Heh heh heh, we killed Asmodeous... heh heh heh." (Not that I believe...

Point Buy Method: What is a good number?

I'm going to have to disagree with you here... While you may call it "strong-arming," I would call it the DM's Prerogative. The term "strong-arming" makes it seem like its highway robbery or something... No, I don't believe that at all. If the players do not trust their DM enough to follow his...

Point Buy Method: What is a good number?

The Problems with Point-Buy 1) One of my players, for some unknown reason to me, absolutely hates the idea of point-buy character generation. He's never put it into words, and therefore, I question the validity of the "argument." 2) The tendancy of people to utterly maximize their stats so...

    Gaming group dynamics

Don't treat them the same as regular players... Though I don't believe you should do anything rash like kick them out, I would simply think of them as not being part of the group for the purposes of running the campaign. As you said, these people are very much "guest players." Things like...

Kalamar Geanavue Map (how do I get it out of the book?)

Might I suggest some fine surgery with an XActo Knife or one of the smaller box cutters? I did that with a few pull-outs in other books. Just have to lay the book flat, hold the map perpindicular with your off-hand, and then start at it with the knife.

Kalamar Geanavue Map (how do I get it out of the book?)

Hey Nephyte! Good to see you posting on the EN Boards! Might I ask, arcady, if the map is attached by that sticky, stretchy glue, or through the binding itself? I'm sure you're aware of the trick already, but if it be the stretchy glue stuff, you can use some talc powder, the spiel on the KoK...

Do NPCs have to follow the rules?

Re: Umbran Hey Umbran, I understand you're viewpoints and such, but I wasn't attacking the idea of a fair game more than I was counter-attacking the idea that DMs have to be leashed because they weild too much power to be trusted... While it can be true, I believe that the better DMs...

Do NPCs have to follow the rules?

But you're not allowed to balance your encounters as you see fit! Even as the DM, you're expected to follow the rules because the rules are the only thing that stands between despotic autocracy at the table, and a good game! ;) :D  Most of my major NPCs follow the rules...

    Armies of The Ancient World

The Rise and Fall of Great Powers There's a book by Paul Kennedy called _The Rise and Fall of Great Powers_. It definately makes sense of the fall of many great powers, although I do not believe it addresses things before 1400 CE... Good book though.

    Armies of The Ancient World

That's what I'm trying to do right now on my boards... it's harder than I thought it would be, but I do have the basic system up now. My friends seem to like it. I have added a lot of Non-Player-Civilizations though, so there's some work for me there... It would be cool to play a game where...

(IR) The 3rd IR, Turn 7 (End)

Though I feel kinda funny posting to the Third IR after I left, I have the answer to a problem Edena's been having... His name, as far as I know, was Bran Blackbyrd. But yes, reading over the threads, I find that your dedication to the IR is staggering to think about. Good job, Edena! Thanks...

Broken Ranger problem solved by Kalamar PG?

I wholeheartedly agree with you there! :) But still, it seemed, perhaps through the "virtue" of Regdar's grating personality alone, that you were discounting what he was trying to say through his misuse of a single term. Which seemed like BS to me, so I thought I'd speak up... Personally, as...
