Jeremy Crawford Also Leaving D&D Team Later This Month

I'm not certain what it is, but clearly something is going on for so many high-level people to be leaving all at once.

D&D 5E (2024) "No magic items are necessary" vs Magic Items Awarded by Level

Just out of curiosity, what do the 2024 rules say with regard to characters crafting their own magic items?

    Cookin again

A friend of mine just assured me that Japanese curry is a different beast from Indian curry. I think he's right, but it's been over twenty years since I've had Japanese curry; now I need to find a local Asian market to confirm what I've been told.

WotC Chris Cao has left WotC

A guy in my group financed a few years' worth of trips to Gen Con (for himself, not for the entire group) by selling M:tG cards at the convention.

D&D General One innovation per edition

I think that was another thing (I vaguely recall a "dragonkin" from AD&D 2E, but don't quote me on that). In 3.5, the dragonborn were, if I recall correctly, the "dragonborn of Bahamut," and existing races (e.g. humans, elves, etc.) transformed into them as part of a pledge of service to...

D&D General One innovation per edition

I like to remind people that dragonborn originally appeared in 3.5E, even if they were somewhat different from their later implementations.

What videogames are you playing in 2025?

Somewhat tangential: a little while ago I saw an online sales page for a wire that would let you hook up (if I recall correctly) your SNES, N64, and GameCube to an HDTV. It looked pretty awesome, but a friend of mine said that while it would probably work, it would screw the aspect ratio all to...

How do you use the "Trivia" ability?

I'd think of a "trivia" ability as being a lot like bardic knowledge, in that it's basically there to have an in-character reason for the GM to be able to give exposition to the players (ideally if and when they ask for it or if they're stuck and need a gentle nudge to get moving again).

    Psionics--the Poll!

I thought I read back in (the original publication of) Playing at the World that psionics in D&D was also supposed to be a nod to the people who wanted to use magic points instead of Vancian spellcasting...but I'm not completely certain I'm remembering correctly.

D&D 5E (2024) Do you understand the words coming out of my mouth? - Languages in 2024

Ideas like this remind of an old article in Dragon magazine about the language families in the Forgotten Realms. I can't recall what its title was or what issue it was in, but it was quite a lot of fun.

D&D General What Bits of History Inspire Your Homebrew Setting?

It's not quite the same as being inspired by history directly, but I still would like to implement some of the rules restricting magic from certain sourcebooks from AD&D 2E's Historical Reference line. Things like certain spells only working in consecrated areas, for instance, or other spells...

    D&D 5E (2014) 5.0 Retrospective. Races Most/Least Popular (anecdotes).

Somewhat tangential; a player in our current campaign (which is PF1) who also runs a 5E game lamented that 5E didn't have a dog/canine PC race. Apparently that idea isn't particularly popular.
