    January and Beyond!

This point raises another major concern I have with the racial power - it is not 'idiot proof' for novices. Experienced players will know it's not worth spending a standard action just to gain CA for their next attack. New players may think that they are supposed to attack every other round...

    January and Beyond!

I agree with you on the combat side of things, Aegeri. As for out of combat - I don't think the 'make a stealth check out of combat if the DM says creatures are distracted' is equivalent to the Shade's ability. In the frequently mentioned example of waltzing through an open courtyard in a...

    January and Beyond!

This - 100%. I completely agree with Klaus that the One With Shadow power is freaking AWESOME outside of combat. But in combat it is only an action sink except for extremely rare niche circumstances, like when it's appropriate to take the Total Defense action. I think the better comparison...

    Character Builder WTFs per minute

I am able to do this now. There's some checkbox you have to check when looking at the available powers. It's called something cryptic and uninformative like "Show Additional Options", and it's very small, but it's there, just above the power list. If you check it you'll see lower level powers as...

    January and Beyond!

Count me as also baffled. Passing on a chance to attack for a round, just so you can hide for a turn? In the hands of an inexperienced player, this will cut their effectiveness in half as they continually sacrifice standard actions they could attack with to just run away and hide in a corner. In...

The Boundary Lands: On the Edge of Civilization (Updated 5/9/11)

Chapter 2 - Ramshead (s. 4) 2.1 A Mystery The party makes their way out of the goblin cave complex, with the Raven Queen statue in hand. They debate whether this powerful evil artifact should be handed over to Lord Dread, and consider the possibility that Davos may be more interested in the...

    Fortune Cards Threads [Merged]

Like'em or not, they are some definite power creep. I know their random, but they seem to be all good things. Why not make a character take a feat or give up a power in return for the option to use'em? I also think they'd be cool if they were given out as a magic item - a deck of these would...

    D&D 4E Elevation Bonus in 4E?

There's no +2 in 4e, not on a bull rush either. Of course, if u think it makes sense it's a fine house rule. They took it out for ease of play, not because it didn't make sense.

This. Why is it evil and underhanded for a business to try to make money?

    Okay, now I'm worried...

But my character is on their on-line servers! If they turn them off, how will I level up? Will I chisel my character into a stone tablet like some caveman!?!?

D&D is actually kind of unique

I can see how d&d is somewhat unique. Since its so huge in the rpg space, I think other games have to try to be different just to attract a niche market that will buy them. I do think GURPS can match d&d in terms of fantastic magic. Though, its obviously very different in a lot of other ways.

    Why gronard?

Newer is definitely not necessarily better. Old systems have plenty of good things going for them. I think WotC feels that new gamers will see the on-line component as a crucial part of the experience, and that unfortunately can't be recreated with older editions. Which is really a shame, I...

The Media That Inspired Your Imagination

I guess these don't count as 'media', but I find inspiration in reading story hours of actual roleplaying. There's nothing more inspiring than reading a story that came to life in an actual game. Sagiro's story hour kind of got me back into playing d&d. I would also add as inspiration any...

How do you deal with food and shelter?

It doesn't hurt to ask your players if they want that level of detail. I would think most would not, but if someone made a nature-master ranger with nature skill tweaked out of this world so he could help the party survive in the wild he may feel devalued if he doesn't get a chance to shine...

The Boundary Lands: On the Edge of Civilization (Updated 5/9/11)

Background and Prelude If you’d rather jump right into the story you can skip this post (though character introductions are at the end of it). Long story short: the party is a team of ‘special forces’ for the Emperor of Nerath, formerly ruler of the massive Empire of Nerath, now just ruler of...
