Duncan, his sword unsheathed, moves cautiously forward to stand between the explorers and the chronobeasts.

Everything D&D Ever - Temple of the Frog

I've been there afew times, and recently. Would you be up for starting the IC thread with a spot where we can interact? Like a camp site with a fire, or the common room of an Inn, or on a riverboat or something? That way we can mingle and do introductions while you settle in and prepare the...

    The Center of Time

Speed roll [roll0] And can I spend some Speed to lower the DC? I've never used any resources before, so this is my first!

    D&D 5E (2014) 5E Maths

Given how much is based off CR, it sounds more practical to start with the desired CR and work from there. Maybe list abilities you want, then size, pick the CR you want, and fill in the blanks for numbers of dice for damage and Hit Dice? Just a theoretical strategy for designing them...

    GM found! 0-level funnel pending!

ooc: Hey all. Sorry for being absent, and then lazy. Too much on my plate, and then got shy about checking in. If it's okay, I'm too far behind on this game to catch up and do a good job, so I'll officially bow out. sorry. thanks for running this, btw.

D&D 5E (2014) Low level party vs high CR monsters?

Has anyone tried running the tougher monsters against lower level parties? I'm not expecting miracles, but looking at the Sphinx preview I noticed it's AC17, a number that even starter characters can hit. Granted, it's able to hit them once for a kill, but I could see resourceful characters...

Everything D&D Ever - Temple of the Frog

Hey all, I'm still here. I guess I should post my wizard to the RG (gotta finish some details, and make up a history). I think I'd like my arcane focus to be an orb, like the Eye of something something, like Dr. Strange's Eye of Agamotto. Slowly mulling over options. I'm also modifying some...

    Random Character Generator (beta 1.0)

is this still a thing? I'm using a different computer now, so would love to port this over.

D&D 5E (2014) Why is the Sorceror so limited in spell knowledge?

I wasn't arguing with RW, I was responding to him so he'd know that was the point I was responding to. It's not a bad try at standard RAW optimization (which is actually a clever skill to know). I don't think the point is correct, and I think it's fairly clear in that the spells known and...

    The Center of Time

Duncan unslings his claymore, then calmly stays with the rest of the group. His voice rumbles out a strategy. "I believe they'll surround us in a moment, a tactic called the "horns of the Vykk", one center, the other two flanking to either side. They are aggressive. When they attack, everyone...

D&D 5E (2014) Why is the Sorceror so limited in spell knowledge?

rangerWicket: I think this is a misinterpretation of what the rules say. I'm looking over p163, and while you could use a higher level slot to nuke someone with a lower level spell, you can't "learn" high level spells from classes beyond what you know through whatever class level you are in...

Everything D&D Ever - Temple of the Frog

    1) I believe I'm playing a male. 2) Playing a Wizard. Was considering going female Warlock with an Imp, but may save that for later. That said, as long as I'm playing someone who's intelligent and charming, and can hurl blast spells, I'm good. Is the Warlock fairly roguish?

    The Center of Time

Duncan nods, assessing the necessity of combat. "It is fierce, but will it get in our way or follow us if we try to avoid it? And can it disrupt our business in the Mountain of Time?"

Everything D&D Ever - Temple of the Frog

I think I'm good to go. I was thinking at first that I'd like to be an immortal who takes on different forms each generation, but another thought: all my characters will share the same familiar. Maybe it's just the one that shows up for the spell, or there's some other link, but that seems...

Everything D&D Ever - Temple of the Frog

Module focus: Fair enough. And lots of ideas for my own games are coming to mind, so that's good. That said, will be be only using what's in the modules, or will we assume that all the modules exist in the same universe? Example: if we somehow survive the tomb of horrors, move into the time...

    D&D 5E (2014) Magic Item design?

Agree on not needing the +x bonus. While it was used in older editions, I think we can get along without it. Keep the math simple and add variety at the same time. I think one could use +X for a "keen" sword, but then you could just say "you have advantage when..." and have the same sort of...

Everything D&D Ever - Temple of the Frog

Hah! I deeply respect ambition. I would strongly suggest taking this game one encounter at a time. I've finished literally four games in twenty years of gaming. Also, I know I signed up for going through modules... but I'd be happy simply having a stalwart group of companions as the focus...

    D&D 5E (2014) Magic Item design?

I'd go with "Final Charge" on the wands of magic missile: Each day they can cast 1d6 charges (or 1d20 spell levels). they also have a final charge, and you can use it, but it destroys the wand automatically. However: I like my casters to have their wands, though, as a prop. Gandalf has a...
