    HELP! First Eberron Session Ideas!

What I did my first session was throw the characters right into a murder mystery right out on the rainy walkways of Sharn. Also, one of the ideas I've heard that I like is starting the game out during the Last War with appropriate events and foreshadowing relating to the plot, and then bringing...

DMs - what do you put in your campaign packets?

I usually make a webpage with appropriate background info, known NPCs and organizations, (I generally prefer to have the PCs know each other before the campaign), house rules and clarifications, and general information on how I intend to run it.

    Overstock.com is offering $1 shipping

I've bought D&D books from them several times before and have never had a problem, but I know my mom had some problem once or twice with them. I'm not entirely sure what the nature of the problem(s) was though.

    It had to be done

So do I have problems breaking a paper wall with an unarmed attack because its inert and I can only do nonlethal damage? :D (Yes, I know that's silly. A lot of these rules when it comes to objects really just need DM adjudication.)

    Vicious weapons: why melee only?

Gotta agree with the flavor thing -- IMO it would be odd flavor-wise to have an arrow loosed, and then if/when it hits energy gets sucked out of you. Of course magic doesn't have to follow any rules of logic, but I'd just have a hard time with it.

What are everyones thoughts on Iron Heroes?

Don't know if I'll buy it right away, but I'm very stoked. Usually I like settings with lots of magic, but supposing it lives up to the hype this looks like it'll be a good system for fun games. As Yair mentioned earlier, I like the fact that challenges seem to be based on per encounter rather...

Do your players name their group?

In my short-lived Eberron campaign my players ran a mercenary group in Sharn which they named the Riskbreakers (after the organization in Vagrant Story). However, that's rather infrequent and is mainly a result of how I like to run campaigns -- by making sure the party has a sense of comradre...

What is the gold for a 100th level Epic guy?

I'll have to ask him next time he's around -- I had just pulled that out of an IRC log where he was messing around with it.

What is the gold for a 100th level Epic guy?

A friend of mine made a script to calculate starting gold above lv40, and (accordeing to the generator at least -- I make no claims to its accuracy), at Lv100 you start at 3981.3 million gold. EDIT: Oh? I think he couldn't figure out what the formula was. So that's probably correct!

    When the DM goes crazy

In regards to the bluff, personally I put it in my "house clarifications" section (because I wouldn't classify it as a "house rule" per se) that any attempts to deceive -- not just lie -- call for a Bluff check. Even if what someone is telling is completely truthful, if he's not honest then he...

Have you been disillusioned by the Forgotten Realms?

I wouldn't say that I've particularly been disillusioned, mainly because I've never been particularly... illusioned? It's a decent setting -- I like the cosmology and some of the aspects of the world, but as a whole it just has never grabbed me. Haven't looked into Greyhawk so I can't say...

Have you been disillusioned by Eberron?

I haven't been disillusioned by Eberron, but I haven't kept up with much of the recent source material either (Five Nations, Races of Eberron, many of the Dragonshards). So if there's something in there that's disillusion-worthy there, I haven't encountered it. If there's something I'm not a...

Elves - Love em or Hate em?

I have an irrational hatred of elves as a race in general. I can't exactly pinpoint what I don't like about them -- I think it's some combination of their haughtiness, longevity, and portrayal as super-awesome. Drow also bug me, but I think that's less because they're elves and more because...

    my "dream" has been shattered

For my first homebrew camp I came up with what I thought was a unique character concept -- a person living on the prime material who has ultimate power over the Region of Dreams and brings order to it, and when she dies she is reborn in the world as a new soul. Then I read Sepulcrave's story...

As a DM, what would you do in this situation?

Definitely A -- IME having characters too far behind diminishes fun, especially when one of the reasons for changing chars is "isn't having fun". I do like el's ideas too.

Where do DMs usually start out?

Started with homebrew, and stuck that way for awhile mainly because there was no campaign setting that really wowed me. Forgotten Realms was crystalized in my mind as kind of a "template" of a campaign setting in my head, and though there were some aspects of it that I liked (such as the...

    One-line villains

A wise, frail wizard who would do most anything to restore a lost loved one to him, but also sincerely cares about the PCs. On the one hand, a prestigious Jorasco halfling who believes he can only keep those close to him safe by either keeping the warforged PC friend ignorant, or otherwise...

    Rerolls

Faiths & Pantheons has the prestige Auspician, which gives you Fickle Finger of Fate, which is like Luck domain except that it makes another reroll -- enemy or ally (I believe Fatespinner still gives this too). It's 3.0 technically, but afaik requires no updating for 3.5 games.

    The Importance of Correct Punctuation

As somewhat off-point, I was always taught that this usage was correct -- that someone could use IC;IC or IC;however/nonetheless/etc., IC. Though I was also taught that the hyphen and the colon could also be used to join sentences if they were similar, and a semicolon if they contrasted. I...

What is your most trivial house rule?

Some I have had that I can think of: 1) You don't instantly lose prestige abilities when you lose the prereqs -- it depends (subjectively) on how long you've been without them and how important they are to the class thematically. This has been used -0 times. 2) Weapon Finesse doesn't require...
