    Batman as a D&D character

I've always thought Batman would make a good D&D character going back to that issue where he broke into the villain's hideout, killed the Joker and Penguin and took all their stuff. Classic Golden Age storytelling, that. I think when interpreting characters from other sources into games...

    "Epic" progression after 6th level

Uncanny Dodge was the only class ab that stacks that I could think of, so that's the example I used. There might be others. Although in my game I let just about anything stack. (If a character already has TWF and they pick it for their combat style as a Ranger, they get Imp TWF.) I'm very...

    "Epic" progression after 6th level

How arbitrary was the 6th level cap? How much do you think your system would be affected by an 8th or 10th level cap, or a 4th?

    "Epic" progression after 6th level

What about class abilities? I'm the sort that plays a lot of multiclasses, but with only 6 levels to play with I could see this being more difficult. (Not a knock against, merely a factor to be considered.) On the one hand, splitting classes might mean you lose access to a higher level class...

    "Epic" progression after 6th level

I've done the same thing for LA races, oddly. Back in the dark days of 2ed, I had a GM do something similar for characters that had reached their level limit. They continued to earn xp and could spend it for spells or proficiencies. One player ended up putting 50,000xp into an "Epic" spell...

Isn't Success in D&D Dependent Upon Murder?

I think the first point that gets ignored in these sorts of discussions is that there isn't any one D&D game. Some are about going into a dungeon, killing things and taking their stuff. Some are about a black-and-white struggle of Good versus Evil. Some can even be about the struggle to do...

What must one do to be "evil" alignment?

I disagree. I think more often in games, Alignment gets used as a way to shortcut past the moral quandry. If you can't Detect the evil, then that's when the characters have to look at the situation and decide what they believe the right thing to do is. Some players grok that and some it just...

    What Knowledge Covers Werewolves?

I'd say its type is Shapechanger, and its covered by Knowledge: Arcana. I mean, its doesn't really matter what the base creature is, its the template that matters. That said, I'd consider DR silver for lycanthropes to be common knowledge. Edit: Slipped in on me, der. I'd say its arcane...

Freedom of Movement vs. Mummy Despair

Well, I think that's what contributes to the confusion. You have paralysis (from a variety of effects, but all fucntionally the same), Fear effects (shaken, frightened, panicked and cowering, but no paralysis-- a creature only cowers if escape is impossible), and then you have "paralyzed with...

    "Epic" progression after 6th level

This is very interesting. I've been considering something similar (like a feat per level, capping out at 9th), to put more lateral advancement into the game. My group tends to play in the mid levels, and there is a tendency to "level out" of the game we enjoy into a game we enjoy less (or just...

Freedom of Movement vs. Mummy Despair

Paralysis mentions you can take purely mental actions. To me, paralysis is paralysis, whether it comes from ghoul's claw or a mummy's despair. If they wanted it to be different, they should have picked another word.

Freedom of Movement vs. Mummy Despair

This is a section of the rules that has confused me for going on three and a half editions (and I have high hopes it will be equally confusing in the fourth.) Freedom of Movement is a 4th level spell, Freedom is a 9th level spell. Freedom is obviously much more powerful, and the intent seems...

    Mirror image question

I like the 8 guys on the back of the horse idea better. It doesn't invalidate the spell (opponents must choose from indistinguishable targets), it doesn't lay track to potential abuses (like casters riding piggyback on the fighter), and its a humorous image. Although so is the piggyback caster.

    Move-bite-move?

Natural Weapons are considered melee weapons. I mean, they're called "weapons" and they're usuable in melee, so I'm assuming its fine. Otherwise, monks wouldn't be able to use their Unarmed Strike with Spring Attack, which seems to violate the spirit of the feat, if not the letter.

    Underground Travel

Well, if it takes a full round action to search a 5x5 section, I guess the party would be moving at a rate of roughly 5' every other round. My math may be a little off, but I'm getting 1/4 mile per hour. (If a 15' move is 1.5 miles per hour, and they're moving 1/6th of that, that'd be a a...

    Dragons Are Disposable(D.A.D.)Membership drive

Wait a minute, those velociraptors were geniuses! By the third movie, they were talking. Actually, there was a good parody of that on The Critc tv show (cartoon, Jon Lovitz), where they're watching a clip of the movie and the 'raptor breaks out into a British accent with, "I've arranged...

The problem with magic in D&D

I've been playing D&D since middle school, and I still can't summon devils, demons or plague my enemies with sorcery. And I don't want to make this a truth in advertising issue, but these powers were implicit in the hobby. If I had it to do over, I think I would have just learned to play the...

    Increase DC for Casting defensively

I looked it up because I wasn't sure, and AE is Opponent's Attack Bonus (Min 10) + Spell Level. Although I agree with you, I like it when rules work pretty much the same way. Saves brainspace.

    Monk/wizard cross class

Actually, Mage Armor is pretty good because it can be cast when you figure combat is coming up. Even at 1st level it still lasts an hour, as opposed to an AC bonus like Shield which is measured in minutes. But you throw Mage Armor up at the door to the dungeon and Shield in the first round, and...
