    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder's Goblins

Is that from the Goblin Census Bureau? (80% of all statistics are made up.) :)

    Protection From Evil vs Dominate

Yeah, I go with "blocks the effect" as well. ProE suppressed the Domination effect, giving the subject back its own mind for the few minutes the spell is in effect. I would even allow a Dominator to give a Dominatee new orders in the duration of the ProE, but it won't "kick-in" until the ProE...

    Mirror Image vs Touch Spells

Maybe we're looking at this the wrong way. Instead of reading "figments are unreal" to mean that figments aren't real, maybe the author meant something like, "figments are totally awesome." That's one of the minor hinks with figments, with a spell like Silent Image you get a Will Save when...

    New McFarlane Dragons!

No, I have that one. I call it the ki-rin. The Gold I am thinking of is a big, bright gold dragon. I'm actually on Spawn.com right now downloading pictures of dragons from the series I've missed (they'll make good graphics even if I don't break down and buy the toys, which I most likely...

    New McFarlane Dragons!

Yeah, I picked up Series One when it came out, and grabbed a couple from Series 2. Series 3 I let pass me by, I think there was a really great Gold in the group but I never got around to buying it. I kind of lost track of the line after that. But that Fossil Dragon is so cool... everytime...

Get Rid of All Monster HD

On the whole, I agree. My preferred monster type are the humanoids/monstrous humanoids; and that almost always includes class levels. I like giants too, but they tend to be so HD heavy that its harder to customize them for mid-level play, which is the sweet spot for my group. But once you get...

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder's Goblins

As long as we're talking our favorite goblins, I always liked Blix from Legend. He had lots of little gobliny couplets: Higher, higher, burning fire Making music like a choir. Mortal world turned to ice, Here by goblin paradise. And my favorite, when asked by the Lord of Darkness how black...

    Mirror Image vs Touch Spells

How real is a figment? (Bold mine.) So, how real is a figment? Apparently not. For my money, its the "support weight" line. Since they aren't solid, or "real", the hand with the touch spell would pass through the image just as it would empty air. Anyway, like I say, that's the way I'd rule...

Real Life 3D Dungeon (ala the Comstock Lode)

I'm a great fan of popcicle stick design, having made windmills, watch towers, bridges, siege towers, wagons, cabins, gallows and outhouses out of them. (For some reason, despite not playing wargames, I love making the terrain. Properly painted, craft wood looks pretty good on the table.)...

Real Life 3D Dungeon (ala the Comstock Lode)

You wound me sir. I grew up on Simon & Simon. Did you perchance see their crossover episode with Magnum, P.I. It was the stuff legends were made of. "Major Dad" is just an easier way to refer to him than "The older brother on Simon & Simon." (He was also married to Delta Burke, if memory...

    Mirror Image vs Touch Spells

I look at it one of two ways: either touch spells are expended on images, in which case its the character's fault for wasting the touch spell on what is likely an illusion. Or touch spells aren't wasted on images, and the character can swat away until he hits something that conducts. I don't...

Real Life 3D Dungeon (ala the Comstock Lode)

I saw a show on History Channel a little while ago (Wild West Tech, maybe) that detailed the Comstock Lode silver mine. The mine was dug in sandy ground, and so deadly cave-ins were frequent. The solution was something called Square-Set Timbering, in which old railroad ties were fashioned into...

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder's Goblins

Somebody in another thread linked to this. I just found the synergy with the reimagining of the the goblins to be particularly apt. I love the idea of a goblin warren (for lack of a better term) with tunnels that come up into a large city's town dump, or maybe up into the sewers. Great stuff.

DM Tricks to Challenge Tough PCs with Weaker Enemies

I have to agree. I think the trick is (or at any rate, one of the tricks is) to run a frankly punishing encounter that the players still find fun. Having enemies hit-and-run the party so that the characters never really get to hit back, or hounding them relentlessly so that the casters can't...

Robin Laws D&D Campaign Idea - D&D Deadwood

My friend started the Age or Worms AP off in a Deadwoody town. I think he may have gotten the idea off this board, but that was before I started frequenting it. It kind of backfired on him though, because the Deadwood mining town was such an unusual, and frankly awesome place to set a D&D...

    Deck plans for ships

Mongoose Publishing has their deck plans available for pdf download here. (The deck plans for the three supplements are apparently available for free.) Ships of the Elves, Ships of the Goblinoids, and Ships of War. Odds are the Ships of the E;ves and Goblinoids are a little too fantastic for...

How often should a Ftr 7 hit a CR 7 opponent?

Short Answer, 50%. As a general rule, in a "balanced" system, an equal challenge should be about 50%. Monsters, as a general rule, tend to be on the low-side of AC (unless they're based around it, but most are based around hitting hard, having a lot of hit points, or a special ability). And...

    Pathfinder 1E Pathfinder's Goblins

Pu tme down in the column of people who like the goblins new look. Vaguely cute, but you can still see them hacking apart a peasant family while squealing with glee. My only nitpick, the last line of the song should be "We be Goblins-- you be food." That's just my opinion. When I sing it in...

    how much does firewood iluminate?

I'd go with a campfire illuminates about as well as a torch. One that's all coals would illuminate about as well as a candle. And I'd double it up from there. A 10' Space bonfire would illuminate twice as well as a torch, Bright: 40', Shadowy: 80'. Just as a rough guideline.

    Why Worldbuilding is Bad

I've screwed it up both ways. I've made worlds so rigidly detailed that the pcs were justs ghosts floating through them, unable to affect anything of import, leaving no footsteps or fingerprints. And I've made worlds so vague that if the pcs wander off track they see the 2x4's holding up the...
