Can you take WF and WS for shields?

Yes. (I mean, I'm assuming. But since you can use them as weapons, I can't think of a reason why you couldn't Focus or Specialize in their use.) Edit: Going by the SRD, it looks like Heavy Shield, Light Shield and Buckler are considered different weapons for bash attmepts. I'd say spikes are...

    Benign Transposition questions

I'd put BT somewhere south of Dim Door. My heart of hearts is leaning towards 3rd, but 2nd doesn't offend me.

    Does RoE affect undead?

Fair point about Constructs, but when it comes to necromantic effects, its seems like things that help the living should hurt the undead, and things that help the undead should be harmful to the living. Its that whole life/death, positive/negative, light/dark duality. Now, as I said before...

Whirling Frenzy from UA: Is it balanced?

I'd have to agree. Dropping the STR bonus does make WF much more competative with regular Rage.

    Ignorance on the web

I would just like to say: Blackleaf! Nooooooooooooooooooooooo!

    Does RoE affect undead?

Yeah, it being Necromancy makes me think it should work only on living targets. If its going to work on undead and constructs, it seems like it should be Transmutation. Mine's not a balance objection, its a fluffy one. (Also, I've never been clear on why the Fear spells are in Necro, and not...

    Ignorance on the web

I will say this. I started gaming in the mid-80's, and I still haven't been able to summon any sort of devil or demon. I'm just saying, if I had it to do over, I might've learned to play the guitar. Okay, that's spot on. Actually, the whole article sounds a lot like most of the games I...

Holy Water Bomb for 4000 hp of Damage

I like the 10d6 (or 20d4), using "total immersion" as the cap. I mean, completely submerged in a harmful substance is about all you can do... it doesn't matter if your in a swimming pool or an ocean. I like the Ranged Touch attack. (Actually, my heart of hearts keeps whispering for a Reflex...

Catfolk or Goatfolk - which would make a better "charger"

Litorians are the AE race. I like'em, although they don't get pounce.

Whirling Frenzy from UA: Is it balanced?

I'm currently playing a Fighter/Barbarian, and my GM let me switch it out for standard rage, and the conclusion I came too was similar to the other posters, it's a little too rich for my blood. I think the AC and Reflex bonuses balance well against the CON and Will save of regular Rage, but...

Catfolk or Goatfolk - which would make a better "charger"

I kind of like the Goatfolk, but it may just be the imagery talking. If you're going to be a melee combatant (as opposed, you know, to a missile charger), it seems like the +4 Str/+2 Con is better. Plus, Goatfolk's 3 racial HD are Monstrous Humanoid, which is a better deal than Humanoid. (If...

Kicking out a player: share your stories/advice

I agree with the Honesty approach, but on the other hand, its not like you were dating the guy. I would think an email or a phone call would be more than sufficient. This assumes your relationship is primarily game-related. If the guy is a friend of yours who you plan to continue to see...

    Orc miniatures

The metal LOTR minis are a little smaller than most minis, but the plastic ones are made for some sort of clicky-base game and are a little bigger, I'd say probably 30mm working from memory. The bases are inch and a half hexagons, but the minis pry off easy enough to attach to a standard base.

DMs are too easy on their players

Ah yes, but my imaginary friend is a dinosaur. With, a chainsaw. Nature's most perfect killing machine. (He also has claymore mines for eyes, and... well, this is turning out much sillier than I intended.)

    Orc miniatures

Actually, the uruk-hai from the plastic LOTR game aren't that bad either. I'm using one currently as my half-orc fighter/barbarian in my friend's Eberron game. The minis are a little bigger than D&D minis, but when you're talking about big, scary uruk-hai, that works. I just pried it off its...

    Don't open that door!

Cities of the Underworld on the History Channel is great for inspiration of this sort. I just caught the one on Naples that said over 2/3's of the city is built over existing tunnel complexes dating back to Greek quarries. The one on Edinburgh was pretty good, although those are the only two...

    South Pacific Islands-flavored Campaign

Grippli, and Bullywugs. Why have once race of frog-like humanoids when you can have two races of frog-like humanoids? Why, that's almost twice as many! Also crabmen, kuo-toa, sahaguin, locanth... and kraken. (I know kraken tend to be cold water types, but they make such a good apex predator...

    Feats to Give Sneak Attack?

This might be less helpful, because its AE, but I'll mention it. AE's First Strike gives you +1d6 Sneak Attack damage when attacking a flat-footed opponent at the beginning of combat. (Sneak Attack is a lot harder to get in AE, so that's why the feat may seem a little underpowered.) But if...

    Wizard's red dragon

I guess if you were running a high level D&D game and wanted to use a Colossal Red Dragon, it'd be the bee's knees. Though at $30, it'd need to be a recurring villain and it'd have to recur at least 10 times.

    New feats (considered for E6)

There's a lot of good feats for casters in Arcana Evolved. (As well as good feats for everybody else, and feats that mimic class abilities, as well as variant classes and races-- but that's not the meeting we're having right now.) Blood as Power lets you get another spell in return for...
