How Long to Hear Back about an Article Submission

On a similar EN World thread, James Jacobs (Managing Editor at DUNGEON) answered a similar question. http://www.enworld.org/forums/showpost.php?p=1932825&postcount=13 Thought this might help.

Is hard sci-fi really appropriate as a rpg genre?

If I recall, the Nostromo set down on the planetoid on specific company orders, with orders to physically investigate the site. Ash (aka the Killer Android) was under orders to protect and help the alien survive so it could be returned to Earth. Thus, even with scans and probes of the...

Fellow Player drives the group mad (Rant)

A "problem player" drains the energy of the entire group and brings down the game. If you ever have a couple games without the problem player, you will likely find everyone is more relaxed, having a better time, and is less tense. The longer the situation goes unresolved, the worse it is for...

What do you drink during games?

During the first part of the game, most players are either drinking water from the water cooler, or soda -- we have a fountain soda machine in the game room (Mt. Dew, Coke, Pibb, Barq, Cherry Coke). In the wee hours of the game, a couple players switch over to coffee...

Good Sources for creating a Post-Apocalyptic World?

For overall ideas, check out E.E. Knight's "Vampire Earth" books (Way of the Wolf and Choice of the Cat). These books depict an Earth in the future after humanity has been conquered, with a few holdouts against some rather nasty bad guys. The books do a nice job of depicting life in a...

    Anyone have this

The closest thing I have heard to that would be in an early issue of Knights of the Dinner Table (KenzerCo). That magazine printed the story and also did a comic strip with the Knights attacking a gazebo.

So sick of 2E fans bashing 3E

I've encountered a similar mentality myself on multiple occasions. I was called several types of names for stating my positive views towards 3e...I have never attacked or bashed 1e or 2e (and have played and enjoyed both extensively), but now I play and enjoy 3e. Ultimately, I think some...

    Dungeon 114 Cover

From what I've read, the new format for DUNGEON and DRAGON looks to be a good change. I especially look forward to the changes in DUNGEON, and with those changes I plan on subscribing to the magazine now, whereas before I tended to pick up an issue now and then at the bookstore.

Richards, I remember several of your "Ecology" articles -- you do excellent work. Reviews like that demonstrate a poor reviewer, IMHO. Still, stuff like that can't be enjoyable to come across. Thanks for your ideas and thoughts, as well as the inspiration. Mongoose puts out a lot of...

    Eberron: The Last War

The warforged seem analagous to the introduction of tanks into the latter years of WWI... This is just an assumption, but the Last War would almost have to be filled with long pauses, interspersed with skirmishes, and then now and then a big battle. ALthough Eberron exists at a higher "tech"...

'Tis a humbling experience to realize just how much talent -- not even counting those from the illustrating side of the business, or other facets -- wanders through these messageboards.

GreyWanderer, Congrats on the DRAGON articles! I look forward to reading the one coming out in July (I imagine that issue is shipping next week?). I know that DRAGON recently updated and changed their submission guidelines to be consistent with their new format...but as of yet, I have not...

Napftor, Thanks for the link -- much appreciated. The point you raise about buying gaming products and the social interaction part of it is well taken. Where I live (Cedar Rapids, IA, a city of about 100,000), we have no game shops at all...If one existed, I would much rather pay a bit more...

Have We Lost Our Way? Two masters on combat and alignment

I would argue that 3.5 uses an abstraction, while 1st edition is being concrete. 3.5 does not include facing on the assumption an opponent is not going to knowingly permit an enemy to come at him from the rear. If a creature is aware of an incoming foe, it will adjust its facing to meet the...

I also recently read the entertaining posts by Samothdm regarding his writing and publishing experience -- also informative and helpful. It is great to read these sorts of experiences and hear the nitty-gritty details about the work. It would be, I think, both useful and enjoyable reading to...

Good info Destan, Thanks for taking the time to provide the info. It was all interesting to read, and I enjoyed this rare glimpse into the world of d20 publishing. I especially found intriguing the work and effort beyond the "wordsmithing" portion of your project, and the process involved...

Have We Lost Our Way? Two masters on combat and alignment

Combat complexity 1st edition combat stressed and was designed primarly for attrition. If a group of adventurers met a monster, they basically had to beat on it until they knocked all the hit points off its body...there weren't any options beyond that. There were fewer options for combat...

An Open Letter to Dragon and Dungeon Readers

Kudos to Paizo Publishing I have had nothing but positive experiences in all my interactions with Paizo Publishing -- specifically, DRAGON and DUNGEON magazine. I had a question regarding my DRAGON subscription, and Paizo's subscription fulfillment service contacted me back with the info only...
