    House-ruled monk class

I've been fiddling with the monk class in order to make it stronger as a melee combatant and to make monks more different from one another. I've attached what I've got so far, and any comments would be helpful.

Is 3.x Your Favorite Version of D&D?

Absolutely. I've never read anything before 2nd edition, but 2nd edition has to be the worst-written RPG I've ever seen. The rules are scattered around the books, they're inconsistant, and they're nonsensical. Making matters worse, they're often written in this bizzare style with odd grammar and...

Do You Prefer to Play One of the Four Primary Base Classes (Clr, Ftr, Rog, Wiz)?

I mainly play new base classes from supplements for some reason. My last few characters have been a psion, a psychic warrior, and a warlock. Playing the psion now, I kind of wish I had been playing a wizard instead, though. I'm always out of power points, and I find myself looking longingly at...

    Basic Armor Enhancement Total question

As far as I can tell, you can add as many +gp enhancements as you can afford.

Throwing sand in enemy's eyes? Effect?

I think that's the sort of thing the feinting covers (see the Bluff skill).

    Blood-Spiked Charger

Its a tactical feat form PH2.

    Holy Pacifist Paladin Inspirations, Batman!

I suppose mentioning Batman is a little redundant.

    Shield Bash

I've always assumed that was an example of a way you can shield bash someone, not the only way. A heavy shield is listed as a one-handed martial melee weapon, and a one-handed martial melee weapon can indeed be used as an off-hand weapon. It can also be used in the primary hand or with both...

    Shield Bash

Look in the heavy shield entry, where it says "you can bash an opponent with a heavy shield, using it as an off-hand weapon". The two-weapon fighting section in the combat chapter says "you can bash an opponent with a light shield or heavy shield, using it as an off-hand weapon".

    Rule ponderings by me..

    1) Yes, unless they have Combat Reflexes. 2) There aren't core rules for changing patrons, so it is left to the DM. 3) No. Good-aligned clerics can't cast spells with the evil descriptor, and a summoning spell used to summon an evil creature has the evil descriptor. 4) If the surface won't hold...

    Blood-Spiked Charger

Yup. Its a pretty strong feat as tactical feats go. It's not in Shock Trooper territory, of course.

    Marshal - Quick Question

Think of a marshal cohort as a tactical advisor, rather than a commander. Considering that most militaries are going to have, at thier head, a king or other royal person with no actual military training, I think marshalls should be used to being under the command of civilians.

    Duskblade Arcane Channeling

It not rules-legal, but I'd allow it to work anyway. I've never really liked the increased casting time for spontaneous spellcasters.

    Coup de Gras question.

Well, a search of the SRD reveals that the phrase "melee damage roll" occurs in 3 places: bull's strength, solid fog, and the Power Attack feat itself. Bull's strength says that modifying melee damage rolls is a "usual benefit" of a bonus to a creature's Strength score. The actual entry for...

    Coup de Gras question.

I don't think that question can be answered. It is not a good idea to use the word "normal" in rules text. What does "normal" mean in that context? The damage your unarmed strike deals most of the time? The damage your unarmed strike would deal if you hit them with it right now? The damage your...

    Coup de Gras question.

Power Attack isn't an action of any kind. Read the feat again.

Dragons - how often do you use them?

I voted rarely--I've only used one. It was an adult white dragon that was guarding a succubus. I'm more of a demons and devils DM when it comes to high-CR beasties.

DM : "Your fighter does too much damage. Drop the belt of strength."

Well, then the problem with Question's character, first and foremost, is that the DM is having players roll for stats and expecting to run a balanced game. You could have a reasonable expectation of that in previous editions of D&D, where a 14 was generally no better than a 7 for an ability...

    Coup de Gras question.

You can't use Combat Expertise with a coup de grace. Combat Expertise must be used with "the attack action or the full attack action in melee", while a coup de grace is simply a full round action.

DM : "Your fighter does too much damage. Drop the belt of strength."

I think the biggest problem with the character is the ability scores. He has 11 HD, so he's gained +2 to ability scores from level. All his ability scores are even, so I assume that he used point buy to generate the character. Assuming the previously posted stats for the red dragonspawn template...
