D&D 5E (2014) Teleportation circles costs *how* much?!

Then let us say all the richest people in D&D world should be adventuring wizards. They can and do obtain more money as part of an adventuring group than some kingdoms. If anyone is doing the bankrolling, it's them.

D&D 5E (2014) Teleportation circles costs *how* much?!

And this explains why all the richest people in D&D worlds should be wizards.

Vigilante punishes criminal.. but for what crime?

Suggestion: the PC's are brought in because the vigilante killed a noble that was abusing his privilege with the peasant girls. He got away with it because, well, he's a noble. You need to have a response ready if the party decides the vigilante's killing spree is justified.

Looking for Resources (And Advice) To Help First Time DM

As a beginner, it helps you to be more prepared than to attempt to improv the whole thing. As for arranging locations, you don't have to do it awesome, or even right; just have it prepared so you don't freeze up when it's time to lay it out or describe it. Use minis, because theater of the mind...

D&D 5E (2014) Teleportation circles costs *how* much?!

This also struck me. What this implies, from a world-building perspective, is that permanent circles are rare, and due to the collaborative effort required (one mage by himself cannot arrange a year's worth of sapphire dust) are either shared, or were at some time in the past. This means those...

D&D 5E (2014) Deal Breakers - Or woah, that is just too much

Now, for some of these that have to do with how DM's run the game, is any dispensation given to newby-DM's? I will endure a terrible game for the sake of a new DM. If he or she has potential, they'll ask for constructive criticism, and I will be in a position to give it.

    1,000 GMing Tips

    31) Have a prepared list of random names. When you need an emergency name you didn't expect to need, check one off and jot a quick note of how you used it. Add it to your campaign bible (if you have one [and you should have one]).

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D 5E Does flanking grant advantage ?

I love it. Consider it yoinked. EDIT: One addendum: I would also extend this to certain protective spells, and exempt rogues with the class ability to gain advantage on flank. Maybe.

D&D 5E (2014) Deal Breakers - Or woah, that is just too much

I have never and will never walk out of a game. I don't know how I would feel if I ever saw someone else do it. Now, not coming back after the first session? There are a few things that will make me do that: The DM can't let go of their story. D&D is, primarily, a story about the players. The...

It's like you cast clairvoyance/clairaudience on my gaming table and took notes. B-)

    Let's say optional rule then.

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D 5E Does flanking grant advantage ?

I like your thinking, but this houserule skews boss fights against solos more than they already are.

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D 5E Does flanking grant advantage ?

In theory, I can see that. It has not happened in practice, and that could be for any number of reasons. I think that the chief one is that I have smart monsters cover the angles in such a way that gaining advantage means granting advantage in turn. My players are quite risk-averse, so one...

D&D 5E (2014) Player characters teaching (arcane) spells to each other

EK's and Arcane Tricksters don't have books? Yikes, that's the first I've heard of it. No likey at all. Henceforth, in my game they still have books. It's thematic and cool.

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D 5E Does flanking grant advantage ?

FWIW, we've been running with this rule since day 1, and it really evens out in the end, because monsters are also smart enough to seek advantage. It makes our fights more mobile, as everyone is trying to get into flanking and out of being flanked. This is our solution to otherwise static combat.

D&D 5E (2014) Player characters teaching (arcane) spells to each other

I say go for it, with that understanding that the players are only hindering themselves if they are playing similar enough characters that they can share their entire spell book. One wizard in a party is great. A second is only tenable in a party large enough to fill the other traditional roles...

    D&D 5E (2014) Shapeshifting dragons - only metallic?

FWIW, the Princes of the Apocalypse (OFFICIAL!) adventure has a black dragon shapeshifted as a drow lady-of-the-manor the PC's must negotiate with. I take this as license, as a DM, to give evil dragons whatever powers I need to make them bad-:lol::lol: NPC's.

    D&D 5E (2014) Re-balancing for a single player campaign

I have been trying to think of how to balance 5e for a single-player campaign. My primary thought is that missing party elements are supplied by me, as the DM, as NPC's. However, in a single-player game, I naturally want the PC to shine (but not necessarily a "Mary Sue"). But a wizard cohort...

Dark Tower: The Original Fantasy Troop Simulator

The picture above has the tower itself replaced with printable card-stock tower from D&D 3.5. I recognize it well because I have like 3 or 4. B-)

D&D 5E (2014) Do you want your DM to fudge?

If the DM fudges, he or she must fudge in such a way that I never, ever know. The same goes in reverse; I will never fudge in such a way that it ruins immersion for the players.
