WotC's Nathan Stewart: "Story, Story, Story"; and IS D&D a Tabletop Game?

Yeah, but if you suggest we cast Orlando Bloom as Driz'zt we're gonna have to roll for initiative. :P

WotC's Nathan Stewart: "Story, Story, Story"; and IS D&D a Tabletop Game?

I don't see it that way. It's true, Hasbro has more resources, and it's true, even WotC as a division has more resources than Paizo. But game for game, Paizo has fifty people and D&D has 15, and I don't for a second think those 15 people don't care deeply about the desktop game. I think they do...

WotC's Nathan Stewart: "Story, Story, Story"; and IS D&D a Tabletop Game?

I'm guessing you didn't pay attention to my post where I said, "with the exception of campaign settings." But please, continue listing the things I said did have story. EDIT: Also, I said "crunch" books, and you list a bunch of fluff books. Next time you want to casually insult someone, at...

WotC's Nathan Stewart: "Story, Story, Story"; and IS D&D a Tabletop Game?

Why aren't you? With the exception of Dark Sun, you have all the crunch you need to run those settings in 5E.

WotC's Nathan Stewart: "Story, Story, Story"; and IS D&D a Tabletop Game?

Well, it's also pretty hard to use the Complete Ninja's Handbook when it keeps disappearing.

WotC's Nathan Stewart: "Story, Story, Story"; and IS D&D a Tabletop Game?

With the exception of the Manual of the Planes and Campaign Setting guides, I'm hard pressed to see how previous edition crunch books beyond the core supplied tools for any stories. I see a lot of player-oriented power creep, but not a lot of story.

If the baby's still screamin' 6 months after popping out, it ain't a stillbirth.

WotC's Nathan Stewart: "Story, Story, Story"; and IS D&D a Tabletop Game?

I like what I'm reading, with one caveat: There does need to be a psionics product, if only for the support of previous edition campaign conversions. But yeah, I agree that splat needs to have purpose. 75% of all the prestige classes in 3.x were gimmicky, silly, and contrived. There were a few...

    [LPF] Return to Boar's Ridge

Man, it looks like we had an active couple of days while I was gone! I'm sorry I missed several turns where I should have been making Con saves to stabilize. I had an emergency family thing up in the Appalachians; no phone signal or internet. PM, should I make some rolls to catch up? If so, how...

    [LPF] Return to Boar's Ridge

Yep, that was going to be my guts n' glory moment, if I'd managed to hold on to my falchion. Alas, as it was I couldn't find a way in the rules to prevent an AoO. I figured withrawal was my only shot. Good suggestion on the full defensive, though; I never used that option before. :D

Chris Perkins: Reintroducing Settings in Ways that Surprise People

But there is nothing they can possibly release that they haven't released at least twice already (except maybe Spelljammer). I mean, if they wanted to be cynical, they could resell you the same setting book (as they did in 3.x and 4E), but it's really unnecessary. Right now I'm running 5E FR out...

    [LPF] Return to Boar's Ridge

Darvus Andar, Paladin of Helerion Darvus sparks awake and sees the lucene hammer still looming over him. He tries to grip his falchion, but it is no longer in his hands. Quickly, he presses a hand against his bruised chest to heal himself further as he scrambles to get away from the creature...

    [LPF] Return to Boar's Ridge

Should I act as though Yosephus's heal was effective this turn, or should I roll a death save for this turn and see how you adjudicate this round?

    [LPF] Return to Boar's Ridge

Darvus does a double-take as both ends of the room explode. The skeletons and robed figure are distressing, but the close proximity of the tall figure to Devlin is even more alarming. "Yosephus!" he cries, "Take out those skeletons! I'll handle the beast, whatever it be!" He brings his falchion...

    D&D 5E (2014) Tiefling preview!

Hi, RoseNDagger! Welcome to EnWorld. The answer is: they don't have to be. And most tables view alignment suggestions as just that: suggestions. Order of the Stick cracked wise about how every drow is actually a good-natured rebel against their own society. So it is at my gaming table: tieflings...

7 Years of D&D Stories? And a "Big Reveal" Coming?

What's most unfortunate is that there is no reason the 4E structure could not have been couched in those terms; it just wasn't. By using the dry language of a M:tG rules booklet, they left the construction of a mental mapping of AEDU to coherent game physics to (often over-zealous) forum fans...

At Least 4 Months For Conversion Documents

As someone who is decidedly not in the group you are deriding, I have to say there is no unoffensive way to take this. In particular, there is no proper usage of the phrase "get a life" that exists in civil society. It's what people on a high horse use to deride the supposedly trivial and petty...

D&D 5E (2014) How much of the game have you experienced so far?

Three weekly home games. I married a gamer girl, and our social circles are all gamers, too (even though that is not our primary affinity). So I am definitely lucky in that regard!
