    Ampersand: Sneak Attack

A +6 item and a +5 tome are together worth 173.500 gp. A level 20 character is expected to have 760.000 gp worth of stuff. Hong's DM isn't generous, he just plays the game by the RAW. It's yours who is stingy and has ingrained a perception of 3E into you that isn't accurate. No personal offense...

D&D 4E So, which class will end up being the -Zilla of 4e?

Strikers are more than just dealing damage to a single target, from what I've heard. It's also range and mobility. The warlock, at higher level, can teleport around a little. This'll get him out of hairy situation and place him in a better position to blast people. A fighter or paladin will in...

    D&D 4E Exalted 4e

Absolutely true. On the other hand the Exalted and their various Essence-user colleagues can't raise the dead, teleport, snap their fingers and summon an elder demon (instead of a full night ritual during Calibration only), or various other tricks. Likewise, most beings that fall at terminal...

    D&D 4E Exalted 4e

It is, indeed, a Medicine Charm that reduces wound penalties (as well as some penalties caused by similar effects). But I included it in my list of examples for exactly the reason you already alluded to. It's a stupid name, and not for the same reasons as Dragon Tail Cut. EDIT: Of course...

    D&D 4E Exalted 4e

Anyway, back to the original topic. On the one hand we have: * Tornado Strike * Soul Ruin * Eldritch Blast * Careful Strike * Boon of Souls * curse of the bloodfang beast (ok that's pretty OTT, assuming it's really in the PHB). But on the other we have: * Inexhaustable Bolts of Solar Fire *...

R&C Human Resiliency = Better Saving Throws?

Possibly. Assuming that minions, which is what commoners are, don't have in inherent save penalty. And that saving throws don't suffer adjustments based on relative strength of attacker vs defender. All we have so far about saving throws is the miniature game and the 3.75 bleeding mechanic. I...

    What's this so-called MMO influence????

I think the devs said that having at least one of each role is optimal, but by no means mandatory. It's the same as healers in 3.x; yeah you can use a druid or bard with a wand, but if you want to run the game RAW you're almost forced to take a cleric on board. That never stopped anyone from...

Paladin should kill the Warlord and take his stuff!

Ha! You're confusing etymology with synonymity! And you dare show your face on an internet messageboard? Get ye away from here! :p

Paladin should kill the Warlord and take his stuff!

It's just the Hunter class from Iron Heroes, come to think of it. Only this time he has White Raven maneuvers and took some of the Marshall's stuff. I agree the name can conjure up images of a military type of person, but it's not the first time D&D has a somewhat wonky name. Do 3.x druids have...

    Whoa!

Are.. you seriously asking us what the differences are between 3.5 and a game that won't be released for another four months? I'm afraid that for all the previews given so far, we'll have to wait and see.

Paladin should kill the Warlord and take his stuff!

Well then let's hope there's never going to be a blackguard class again. "We killed us some guards" is going to be hugely misinterpreted... but not as badly as "we killed us some blacks". :p

Paladin should kill the Warlord and take his stuff!

The paladin would be a divine leader, which is what the cleric already is. There'd be too much overlap. And it's silly to have a role filled by two classes with the same powersource. It really had to be either martial or arcane, and they've chosen to gone with Warlord. Which isn't surprising...

Seriously? Spellcasters will not be able to have many spell choices?

No class will be like the 3.x sorceror... not even the 4e sorceror. All classes, it seems, are built around a at-will/per-encounter/per-day model. Whether or not wizards still know more spells than they can cast is unknown I think. It's entirely possible a wizard can know five at-will 1st level...

    Confusing Demons and Such

Who said those are devils in 4e? It sounds to me like the typical devil is "baatezu" and the typical demon is "tanar'ri". Though I don't know if those specific terms will still be used. Some fiends will still differ from that norm. We now have demons from the "yugoloth" strain. They don't...

The Devil's in the Details: Slavicsek reveals the Pit Fiend in all its glory

Sounds rather like a certain shadow-and-flame monstrosity from Tolkien, until the dwarves dug too deep and let him out. And anyway it's not even true per se. If he can use rituals he can still teleport, scry, create undead, grant a wish once every 99 years, and all sorts of funky things.

By Jove, that's it. Just like trained skills in Star Wars Saga. :p

The Devil's in the Details: Slavicsek reveals the Pit Fiend in all its glory

Speculation: "recharge" abilities can be used only once per encounter, except it refreshes if the user ever rolls a certain number on his action point (which presumably can be used to add +1d6 to a defense or a d20 roll). Maybe you even roll the d6 when the point is used otherwise, such as...

The Devil's in the Details: Slavicsek reveals the Pit Fiend in all its glory

If he's disarmed somehow, the mace attack is lost and there's no more use for demonic frenzy really. In addition, certain pesky wizard spells might be able to temporarily disable powers such as demonic frenzy. Sounds like the perfect job for a Controller type character. Finally, unique...

Ok ok, bad example. You know what I meant though.

The Devil's in the Details: Slavicsek reveals the Pit Fiend in all its glory

Universal reach for size is gone too. Note how the mace has Reach 2 but the tail doesn't. This will prevent weird things like horses biting 10' away in 3.x ;) Good thing.
