    Something Awful leak.

Pax East is a couple weeks away. While this leak is unappealing to my gaming style (real or not), I'm not going to get worked up about it until the reports from Pax either confirm or deny the data listed in the leak.

    Assess the Striker

My favorite two concepts/builds are actually Hybrids (Killswitch (lazy lord/artificer) and Battery (Ranger/Warlord)), but I can see how easily it is to build a bad character with a Hybrid. In this situation, I think there are more underlying problems with the group. When two out of five...

What edition had the ideal version of each class?

Fighter: 4E. By far. The best thing about 4th edition is the fighter (or the nerfing of wizards). Rogue: 4E. By a hair over the PF version. Cleric: 2E speciality priests if you added in 3Es spontaneous casting or 4Es minor action healing. Wizard: 4E. No longer gets to completely dominate...

Which class do you hate the most?

I voted for Psions, as I think of psionics as more of a sci-fi thing than a fantasy thing. Can't believe Warlords are getting such a bad rap. Then again, I've never viewed hit points as anything more than an abstraction anyways, so I easily hand wave the shouting people back to their feet...

How many hits should a 1st level Fighter be able to take?

This question depends on what the average fighter is fighting. I voted for 3 hits, which seems to be in the early lead, but I'm comfortable somewhere between 2-4 depending on what the fighter is fighting.

L&L: Putting the Vance in Vancian

The ebb and flow of this conversation (and many others in this subforum) has brought to mind the nursery school rhyme, Humpty Dumpty. In this analogy, Humpty Dumpty equates to the DnD playerbase. I'm starting to come to grips with the fact that despite WoTC's best efforts, they can't put us...

An Alternative to Random Encounters: Draw Poker (it sounds dumb, but it's working)

http://www.enworld.org/forum/d-d-4th-edition-discussion/271730-purple-index-cards-fly-setting-plot-collaboration.html I'm fairly certain this is what you wanted. It is an amazing subgame in and of itself. Oh, and OP, nice job with the encounter system. Bit more complicated than I'd prefer...

    Chaotic neutral semi-antagonist motivations

I can't be the first person to think of Capt. Jack Sparrow can I? I mean, he's amoral, greedy, disliked by the good guys, and and hated by the bad guys. I also am I big fan of the Anon analogy, and will steal it for my upcoming sandbox game. Why do we screw with adventurers? For the Lols.

    Identifying Magic Items

I'm ok with having options, but if the default assumes experimentation it'll be one of the first things I house rule away. I only have a set amount of game time, I don't want to spend 10 minutes of it (or longer) answering yes/no to questions as players figure out what the magic item I just...

    Blacks in Gaming (Hyperlink)

I don't really have a problem for aiming for 10% of the art to be black. I will say that race has never really been an issue at my games. Then again, I tend to describe things as humans, halflings, etc as oppossed to white humans, tan halflings, brown elves, etc. I will say I think the...

    New rule of 3 . Feb 21.

I want to thank you for taking time to come in here and discuss these things with us. I have played DnD since I was in the 6th grade, starting with AD&D and progessing all the way through to 4E. I'm probably being a tad over-emotional, but that's mainly because of the fact 4E is my favorite...

    New rule of 3 . Feb 21.

This article really irked me. I'm trying hard to be open about 5E, but blasting EVERYTHING I liked about 4E isn't helping to sell me on playing the new edition.

D&D 5E (2014) So why are you buying 5th edition?

I'm in the maybe field. The playtest will tell me if I buy it or not. To be frank, I feel like they are going backwards in play design, not forward. Then again, I much prefer 4E to 3E and I liked 3E more than AD&D. It has nothing to do with roleplaying, you can do that fine without any...

D&D 4E Since the announcement of D&D Next, are you still buying 4E product?

I haven't bought a new product since Monster Vault, but I am subscribed to DDI. Not sure where that falls on your list, so I choose still buying but picky option.

Tiefling and half-orc should not be in the PHB

While that is true, I would argue most games aren't planar games. I was mainly talking from a core perspective. Truth be told, I don't see a way to make everyone happy. For instance, I prefer Eberron if I'm playing in a campaign setting (and not a homebrew setting) and I'm already pretty...

Tiefling and half-orc should not be in the PHB

I prefer these races as "core": Humans, Elves, Half-Elves, Dwarves, Gnomes, Orcs, and Halflings. I wouldn't mind seeing these races in the core book: Tieflings, Aasimar (sp?), Warforged, Goliaths, Dragonborn, Drow, and Goblins. I want to ditch Half-Orcs and go with regular Orcs. If...

Do you like being saved? Or the Dues ex machina in action

Only once ever have I gone back and said an encounter simply never happened and I've never used an in game Deux Ex Machina that wasn't planned for plot reasons. The one terrible mistake I made (even after DMing for 10 years at that point) was in a random encounter I rolled on the fly. My...

    D&D 3.x 5e Forgotten Realms - should it be closer to 3e or 4e?

I voted 3E, but I really would prefer if the new "official" setting came from the book Ed's writing due out in the fall. If not that setting, then I think all timelines should be supported. Something like the pre-Time of Troubles, Pre-Spellplauge, and Spellplague eras.
