November 16th release for Web-based Character Builder

I don't even know where to begin with the 20 character revelation. I'm stuck in a spot where I utilize the Compendium during games for all my monsters and rules, thus cutting down on book usage (really, I only carry 3.X books for my Eberron lore to games now), but everything about the new CB...

November 16th release for Web-based Character Builder

On the positive side, I can now safely ditch the Oct. CB update, and go back to Sept.'s update, which had fewer bugs, didn't have the rarity system, had the RPGA items, and actually let bards use magical instruments. Small victories, I suppose. I'm sooooooo glad we decided not to have everyone...

November 16th release for Web-based Character Builder

Technically, what you propose is against the Terms of Service for the character builder. My understanding is that you could update the characters in the new DDI online version, but I doubt you could have 5 seperate computers logged in at the same time.

November 16th release for Web-based Character Builder

Bingo. All five of my players use the CB to track their sheets during play. I use the compendium to run all my monsters and look up rules. This new direction actually negatively effects myself and my group right now. We haven't had a character printed off in almost a year. We save the...

November 16th release for Web-based Character Builder

Given that my players did all play with Laptops, I'm terribly disappointed with this announcement, especially given that the current CB could track everything as you played. I'm not sure if I'm gonna keep my DDI sub, if I do it will only be for the compendium, which cuts down on my book...

    Character Builder Glitch

I posted a different bug in the CB over on the Wizards site, this one having to do with magical musical instruments. Seems like this last update has made them unequippable in your main or offhand. The bard in my party was MOST displeased when he figured out after the update he was no longer...

    Slayer build sillyness

Lol, I see. I don't own the Essentials line, so I'm not capable of making the guide. I'm sure someone will make one, but given that LDB does most of the melee builds, people seem to stay out of his way when it comes to the guides and await for his word.

What kind of Leader will you make for this party?

I'd vote for a skirmishing warlord (where you can provide some ranged powers) or a cunning bard. Or, just take the Killswitch build listed earlier and rock people's faces off. That build is just amazing. Though, I'd probably switch at the L5 Warlord daily for Lead the Attack, a level 1...

    Slayer build sillyness

LDB just started it up at the end of last week. I'm going to guess the Wiki guides just haven't caught up to it yet. Also, I'd throw in my support for Great Weapon fighters being pretty freaking strikery. Getting drilled with 2d6b1 weapons with daily's that reach 3W at 1st level is pretty...

It's Almost the Season for WOTC layoff!

I'm not so much oppossed to having the discussion, as I am the way it was presented in this thread.

If you already have 4th ed books, do you need Essentials?

I'm not planning on buying any of the essentials line. Anything I want will be updated via CB, MB, or the Compendium anyways. This is more due to my personal dislike of a couple things essentials is doing, however (stuff like magic item rarity hardcoded and slayer/knight style class design).

    Replacement for thunderspire Dragon

Take a look at Razecoreth, Young Green Dragon Warlock, a level 10 solo skirmisher. It's from Draconomicon, so it'll need some touch up in the MB, but it is way more interesting than a normal green dragon.

    Getting Combat Challenge More Involved

As Jester said, it all depends on the Fighter. The Fighter in the 4E game I'm running is a warforged great weapon fighter with a Mordenkrad and Warforged Superiority. Combat challenge may trigger once a fight, but once intelligent foes see him land a 2d6b1 + prone attack, they decide it...

How many RPGs do you play?

In the last year and a half my gaming group has played: DnD 3E and 4E Pathfinder Beta Star Wars d20, Saga, and d6 (d6 being the favorite) OWoD: Vampire and Werewolf Deadlands: Hell on Earth Call of Cthulu Ghostbusters Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles GURPS (set in the 1930s) and Rifts Not sure...

D&D 4E Running player commentary on Sanzuo's 4e Dark Sun campaign

    Ranger's Twin Strike question

In short, you get to make 2 attacks at +5 vs AC, each doing 1d6 damage.

    DDI September/October Update info

I just don't understand why everyone is taking the announcement of a new web based tool as "proof" that the CB is moving to an online only feature. I'm more inclined to believe character themes and some of the Essentials stuff really messed with the CB, and they haven't ironed it out yet since...

    How does resist actually work?

When you take ongoing damage, you only apply the highest ongoing damage from a given effect type (fire, cold, poison, etc). For instance, in your case, you would only be subject to ongoing 5 poison damage that would then be negated by your resist 5 poison. However, if you were taking 5 ongoing...

D&D 4E Which 4e books do you think are must-haves?

DDI sub, DMGs, and maybe Campaign guides if you were playing in one of the settings. Maybe the Rules Compendium if you aren't playing with laptops at the table (we are, so I won't buy it). Everything else is covered by the aforementioned DDI sub. Personally, I also would buy the fluff DM...

D&D 4E In 4e, why do you play the Race/Class you play?

I mostly DM, but I have had the chance to play a few characters. Human Fighter from 1st to 5th (died when party TPK'd when I missed a session). Sword and Board specced; this was my first character for 4E, and was nasty hard to move away from. Human Taclord from 2nd-4th (also played a...
