    Starlock Power Choices

I'd probably go for the first one unless you know your campaign is going to involve a bunch of aberrant monsters. While the other two may match your character concept a bit better, it's not useful to pick powers you're simply not going to use. How about reskinning Etheral Stride into a more...

XP - How do you do it?

I was doing RAW for combat + RP bonus + card bonus (from SabreCat's Purple Index Cards; posted in 4E houserule forum). That got to be a bit to fast (leveling around 1 per 1 & 1/2 sessions), so I hacked combat xp in half and doubled quest values to focus more on RP aspects of the game. The main...

    D&D 4E Languages and 4E

One of the main gripes my players have is the way languages are handled in 4E (it actually might be the single largest gripe they have right now). Truth be told, I agree with them. A feat for 3 languages was borderline iffy when only the PH1 was around, but with all the additional...

    Why Use Dungeon Tiles?

I use both Dungeon Tiles and a Flip Mat. I use Dungeon Tiles most often for outdoor encounters. Another good point to the tiles is that my artistic ability is non-existant.

Would Darksun have been a better 1st release for 4e?

I would point out that Eberron only escaped the timeline movement handed to the Realms because of all the venom FR incurred and the outcry on the Eberron boards.

Just how popular was DnD? Did kids really play it during lunch? (red box nostalgia)

We played Magic during lunch and played RPGs after school (we actually played way more TMNT, Rifts, and WoD then we did DnD.) Middle School 94-96, high school 96-99.

Class power level vs. tactical mastery

The thread linked on the CharOp board actually goes into much detail about why they rank the classes the way they do. CharOp tends to value offensive more so then defensive play, IMHO. The choices as top classes are pretty much par for that course. Honestly, I only think there are two bad...

DMs: Do you use the Inherent bonuses option?

I haven't used it yet, but I believe the next 4E game I run will include them.

    D&D 4E D&D 4E settings descriptions

Each of their campaign settings does a good job of introducing the world to the DM and players. I personally prefer Eberron, so I'm going to recommend that setting, but Dark Sun is getting glowing reviews as well. The setting book for FR is well-written, but suffered because they were the...

Ryan Dancey - D&D in a Death Spiral

QFE. Sure, I'm not exactly thrilled with the content of Dragon and Dungeon atm (but we did finally get an Eberron article this month), but hopefully it will turn around. The last few supplements have been outstanding.

Put Your Money Where Your Mou- err Editing Skillz Is!

I was a student editor at OWU at The Historian for the book review section (to be fair, we were low level copyeditors, and always triple checked everything before sending it to Dr. Spall for his final approval). You'd be amazed at how bad college professors actually write, even when critiquing...

[Lets's play] You're given total control of Dungeons & Dragons...

First, I don't want to be in charge of the whole line. It's a losing position. If I were, I'd really approach it three ways. First, I'd spend six months or so just studying all the data I'd be overwhelmed with. What sells, what doesn't, why things sell, etc. Introduce new surveys with...

    How to fix Dragon

I agree with all of these, but especially numbers 1,3, and 6.

    Which Basic?

    I started with AD&D 2nd Edition.

What religious pantheon do you use?

It depends on which setting we're playing. I use Eberron's religions when playing in Eberron, the FR deities for FR, and my own homebrewed pantheon that is a pretty much a mix and match from FR and my own creations.

14 Year old You vs The Today You

My 14 year old me didn't play DnD much (it was 3rd or 4th on the RPG list). Instead, it was all about BIG GUNS (Rifts), Angst (Vampire), and saving the universe (Star Wars d6). Adventure wise, what seems like old hat and cliche now was still fresh and exciting then.

What does your ENWorld name mean?

It was a nickname I picked up in high school. The back story is that our entire group of friends loved music, and were well known for our tastes as an alternative/punk/metal/indy rock guys. My friends thought it would be highly amusing to nickname me Wilson after the soft rock band...

    Cloak of the Walking Wounded

QFT. Unless you're running with no leader, seems like a very poor use of two surges.

    Fixing your Players Handbook One

Option #3 would be illegal only if you did something like sell it for profit.

Which Published Settings Have You Played In?

I'm guessing we're limiting this to DnD worlds. We've tended to play mostly in homebrew worlds, but that has slowly changed over time. Currently, I'm running an Eberron game. Played in: Ravenloft Birthright Greyhawk Forgotten Realms Eberron DM'd in: Ravenloft Forgotten Realms Eberron...
