D&D 4E Running player commentary on PCat's 4E Campaign - Heroic tier (finished)

Grats on the publication, PC. I'll check it out once I get Underdark. I haven't played 4E in about 6 months, I'm really missing it.

    January Rules updates 2010

I can't say I'm happy vertical teleport is a-ok now. Perhaps this will be my first houserule.

    Warlord: Your experiences

Taclords make awesome nova machines. Just make sure you grab a luckblade asap. As others have said, Taclords shine in Melee heavy parties. If you don't have at least two other melee party members, I'd say you're better off playing a bard or cleric.

    Is there a social obligation?

This. And this. 4E has shifted primary focus to combat, however. Some people have issues with that (from personal experience, 2 of my good friends dislike the emphasis placed on cohesive parties). As long as you're not a jerk, or screw with the other players fun to much by being obtuse...

    Old school not cool

:( Besides the fact that you insulted thousands of people with that phrase, he's not really even in favor of 4Ed since he's calling for a new edition.

Campaign Standards: Slavery yea or nay?

One of the two major human kingdoms has been on and off at war with a neighboring Elvish Kingdom for centuries. Elves are kept as slaves. The Elven nation just slaughter any humans they capture, since a large portion of the population views them as vermin. The monstrous races keep slaves...

Did your very first character die or level up?

My first RPG wasn't DnD, however, my first DnD character was an human cleric who made it all the way to 5th level in AD&D 2ed.

Your favorite 3.x published campaign setting?

My favorite product for 3.X was the FRCS. It's probably the best RPG product I've ever purchased. However, the Realms are not my favorite setting. I didn't want to like Eberron (halflings riding dinosaurs?!?!?), avoided it for months, but was quickly won over when a friend let me borrow his...

    Christmas Presents?

My cousin gave me "The Plane Below" which is great because I was just going to buy it. My gaming group got me a few different Cthulu christmas CDs (which I'm afraid to listen to) and gift certificates to my FLGS. My wife (just married this month, sounds weird still) gave me a warcraft...

Pathfinder 1E WotC desperately needs to learn from Paizo and Privateer Press

I agree. I ran a 9th level one shot to test some solo monster mechanics for an adventure I may write, and I used a 5k XP budget. Combat lasted forever (3 1/2 hours) but it was because they had 2 solos (one brute, one skirmisher) to blow through plus assorted minions, 2 controllers, and a...

Describe your campaign in 10 words or less

As a player: Current 3.5 game: Killing Yuanti to reseed the missing Treants. 4E game I had to leave because of game day change: Exploring why we can't remember the past five years.

    Most ridiculously overpowered game

My two highest characters ever in DnD (any edition) were both 13th level. One was a Human Monk, the other a human Ranger2/Rogue5/Fighter2/Spymaster4. I DM more than I play, and the highest I've ever had a party reach was about 15th level. That campaign went from First Sememster of my...

How Do You Like Identifying Magic Items to Work?

Usually handwave for mundane + whatever arms, armor, cloaks, and the like. Arcane/spellcraft check for the others. Also houseruled identify in 3.X down to 1 1g pearl and 1 minute of research. No need to derail the game in order to figure out what the shiny new boots do.

    The Most Underpowered Class?

I had a long post, but the forums ate it. Instead of typing it all out again, I'll simply say Sacrifice to Caiphon is the second (or third) most important Star Lock feat IMHO. Student of Caiphon is a great paragon path as well.

Do you always put your stat bumps in your two highest stats?

In general, yes I do place them in the two highest scores unless I have an overriding reason not to bump them (perhaps if I'm a rogue or something I might think about it).

Monster Manual 3: What do we know about it?

Awww, they're doing Oriental dragons before Gem Dragons? Boo.

Epic Level Math Test: Fight 1 (Iconics vs the Efreet!)

I'm at work, but tagging this to see the results once I get home. I also wonder like the prior poster why you chose 4 instead of 5 PCs? Thanks for showing your work.

    Is the math off?

QFE. I had a long post about this, but right before I posted, I saw Dausuul covered my main points.

    Race Elimination Round 2!!

I love Eberron, but Kalashtar are very setting dependent, IMHO.

    Is the math off?

Amusingly, the majority of people who bothered to vote in the poll voted that the system was broken while the majority of people who posted their feelings seem to disagree. I think the math was broken, and WoTC patched it with feats. I disliked their fix (feat tax), and just give everyone...
