D&D 5E (2014) Published Adventures You Have Run in 5e

I've used three published adventures, all of which were modified to make sense in my overarching campaign: Beneath the Ruins of Firestone Keep Shadows on the Long Road White Plume Mountain White Plume was specifically ran to show off how crazy Fun House Dungeons were to a couple of friends who...

Here's the Abyssal Sibriex From Mordenkainen's Tome

As written, this monster has no ability to do what you described by itself. He could use other agents to do such a thing if he had a way to contact them, but this demon has no ability to planeshift or teleport at will.

Here's the Abyssal Sibriex From Mordenkainen's Tome

Why would you go to the Abyss without a plan? Planeshift over to the Abyss and hole up somewhere. Likely in an extradimensional space. Scry over and over again until it works, watch 'till it's relatively isolated, planeshift in, decimate it, planeshift out. If we're talking about 18th level...

Here's the Abyssal Sibriex From Mordenkainen's Tome

Let's say we run into a ranged fighter that goes first. We'll assume the ranged fighter went straight fighter (BM) and are 13th level. We assume you took Archery style and Sharpshooter with your bajillion stat increases you are wielding a +1 longbow as your only relevant magic item. Due to...

How many gods is too many gods?

I prefer around 20-30 gods in the pantheon. 2 of each alignment, weighted more towards neutral for things like Death, Time, Magic, etc. I also am aware that in a campaign, only a handful will actually be important to players. For instance, right now 4 gods are important to my players: the...

Archdevil Moloch (Mordenkainen's tome of foes preview from Dragon+)

Sorry for AFKing away, but I don't check the forums on the weekend that often. A couple of things about my party that would have to be considered: 1.) We roll for stats because the players like to roll them and I prefer a "heroic" character so minimum stat total is 72. Rolling stats is...

Archdevil Moloch (Mordenkainen's tome of foes preview from Dragon+)

2nd. The assumption is that he will teleport away at the end of the first PC turn.

Archdevil Moloch (Mordenkainen's tome of foes preview from Dragon+)

Conceded. I overlooked immune to charm. That does take some of the bite out of the bard, but means she tunnels it into giving the ranger bonuses to hit. Odds are still in their (the barbarian and the ranger) favor to go first due to advantage on initiative checks.

Archdevil Moloch (Mordenkainen's tome of foes preview from Dragon+)

The barbarian has advantage on Initiative checks and will go first or second when combined with cutting words. For sure the Ranger is getting all her attacks in that first round. The ranger deals more damage than what the monster can regenerate if he decides to stay away. If it wants to do...

Archdevil Moloch (Mordenkainen's tome of foes preview from Dragon+)

What makes my party so deadly is their ability to constantly go before the monster. Cutting Words on Initiative is absurdly powerful. Also, the fact they are rocking both SS on an archery built ranger and GWM on a barbarian for constant advantage. Last week, they demolished a pit fiend in...

Archdevil Moloch (Mordenkainen's tome of foes preview from Dragon+)

Even if Counterspell doesn't work, which I concede I misread as an innate spell like ability, not much changes. If the creature wants to attack the party, it has to be within 120 feet to use it's spell like abilities which puts it comfortably within range of the ranger and/or a hastey...

Archdevil Moloch (Mordenkainen's tome of foes preview from Dragon+)

Let's say we star the encounter at traditional range, somewhere in the 50 foot range to start. I call for initiative. The Lore bard subtracts 1d10 from Maloch's initiative and both the ranger and the barbarian have advantage on initiative. I assume the Barbarian goes first, but really the...

Unearthed Arcana Ranger Revised - Overpowered?

I have a UA ranger in the party I DM for and I will tell you that the exploration pillar of the game is pretty much tossed out the window, which to be fair, I don't mind. The party can survive and thrive in the wilderness and I don't have to keep track of their food stores? Score. As others...

Archdevil Moloch (Mordenkainen's tome of foes preview from Dragon+)

Ugh. Only 250 hps. Dead in 2-3 rounds against my 11th level group, even with his legendary teleporting. Between the lore bard tanking his initiative, the GWF Barbarian getting in 1 round of attacks, and the SS ranger/cleric specializing in fiends they'd light him up (with 2 PCs to spare).

Editions of D&D you have played the most in your life

3/3.5/Pathfinder: The first time I started running DnD seriously. We played this up through release of 4E and have run 1 campaign in it since. Loved it at the time, but I would not run it now. 4th Edition: My favorite edition, but the groups least favorite. It's a shame it took such a beating...

Critical Role Critical Role columnist needed for EN World

Ah, no problem. I can't get it done by morning/afternoon EST and still be a functioning adult. I really considered it, but living in the EST, that's 1-2 AM on top of having work the next morning at 8AM. Good luck to those of you applying!

Playing D&D: Homebrew or Published Setting? Why?

I have a 40 page word document that explains the main kingdoms, religions, and timeline of my homebrewed world. Of those 40 pages, I have a 2 page "10 Things you need to know about my world" that is the only thing I highly encourage players to read. I have 2 poster sized world maps that a...
