Mark of Amber was also fun. Lowlevel stuff, but very fun, completely insane, NPCs. The PCs are all in "servant" roles, and so they have to interact with people normally their equals as their bosses.

The fact that you used the phrase "laser bullets" scares me. I don't think this would work out well for a sword/blaster combo. Consider that the grips for the two weapons are fundamentally different. You're going to have much finer control over the gun's aim than the sword's, and you won't be...

Wow, I'm glad I picked up my copy of the Dragon mags when I did! AviLazar, the Dragon compilation I have DOES have a search tool like the one you describe. It's not particularly good, but it's there, and usable.

I'm agreeing with most of the things here, but what I want to see in a space opera game is politicking. Multiple factions, with both human and nonhuman components. Oh, and lotsa stellar empires.

Response to spoilers above: Wait...how was it designed for Mystara? I have the module, but I didn't see any Mystaran references in there, except for one of the NPC mages being named d'Ambreville.

AD&D 2e, back in '97 or so I suppose. Still sticking with it (and not switching!), but also considering running older stuff (like OD&D, or maybe a dungeon crawl using 1e rules).

There was a really nifty adventure in an old DUNGEON which centered around a keep which had shifting internal rooms. Sorta like those little puzzle games you had as a kid where you had to shift all the pieces back into the happyface, but you only had one movement slot...

I, for one, just found it simpler to go to my FLGS. They had everything the WotC store had - and more, so I didn't have to shop around other stores trying to get swag from multiple areas. Oh, and it was more fun to watch the Warhammer games at the FLGS.

Those who consider Law/Chaos not much of a conflict should take a look at M. Moorcock's Elric saga - which probably contributed the entire Law/Chaos axis to D&D.
