D&D 5E (2014) Why Do Higher Levels Get Less Play?

and yet it works. I'd argue the bad design of DND at high level pretty much makes either giving the martials powers the books don't have or giving out magic items to fill the gap necessary. Note there is almost no difference between the two different options mechanically except magic items...

D&D 5E (2014) Why Do Higher Levels Get Less Play?

I do it all the time. works fine. has never unbalanced my games. This is only a problem in magic item light games where the DM is trying to control everything or play a magic is rare game. In that case yep you have to figure it out yourself. any other situation it works fine.

D&D 5E (2014) Why Do Higher Levels Get Less Play?

Just like in anything else you do in life? Enough Drama already. It's how GM's learn even at lower levels. Sure at lower levels you've got more guidance but that doesn't help when your table doesn't like what you do. Doesn't help when you want to do something not standard or the players go...

D&D General Why grognards still matter

Right but sales matter to the company based on who buys what. How it compares to other hobbies is meaningless.

D&D General Why grognards still matter

And yet most players I've played with over the years buy a players handbook use the DM's stuff and maybe dice and a cool dice box or a dice tower. . Inexpensive is subjective and doesn't really have anything to do with what people will spend on the game. Some of us have many thousands of...

D&D General Why grognards still matter

My point has always been on this topic old people generally have more disposable income and are therefore more important to companies that sell stuff including all the gaming companies. As we are talking old people in the gaming hobby I disagree on your assessment of the relevance of the...

D&D General Why grognards still matter

people who have more disposable income spend more of it on hobbies. I think we can at least agree on that. I remember spending 6 months saving for my first players handbook. I don't wait for stuff like that now if I want it for my hobby be it figures, maps, books etc I just go buy it. I...

D&D General Why grognards still matter

the white whales who have the money. The argument that middle aged and older gamers who have more disposable income has been part of the whole thread. Proven it's them no. weight of proof I'd think would be on proving the young people who are most likely to have less money are the ones who...

while yes I did get the numbers wrong it's not just a business client principle. since you are confused I'll send you a link to forbes to set you straight as you've already decided I don't know what I'm talking about. But it's used in healthcare outcomes, distribution centers for inventory and...

D&D 5E (2014) Why Do Higher Levels Get Less Play?

Maxperson's quote. sorry. (edit) Absolutely. I've only done two save the world high level campaigns in the last 20 years. Those are rare for a reason, and that reason is that if the PCs fail, I don't have NPCs sweep in to the rescue. The world ends. High level play done organically from...

D&D General Why grognards still matter

it's easier to influence the guys spending that much money and boost your income than to influence the 10 pound per year customers who probably can't spend more.

D&D General Why grognards still matter

The Pareto Principle in business states, 10 percent of your customers provide 90 percent of your profit. the other 90 percent of your customers spend lots of money but in small amounts. Smart companies always cater to the 10 percent first then the 90 percent.

D&D General Why grognards still matter

Thing in the rear view mirror always look different than they were. white whales can be younger there are well off kids but the middle aged person is more likely to buy a sports car a nice house or all the stuff they want for thier hobby. Obviously there are homeless middle aged people and...

D&D 5E (2014) What could 5E do to make wealth worthwhile?

This is only in games where the DM doesn't have a holistic world. I've played in lots of games where wealth is useful. But the more you restrict the game to simply combat with only the Items the DM wants you to have the less useful the wealth becomes. That has been a problem with the game...

Pathfinder 2E Why are all the magic items so boring?

that's pathfinder though. Good choices and bad choices so the player get to decide. PF2e is a bit better than 1e but it still suffers from the plethora of bad or so-so choices that simply don't measure up to the few things that are generically useful.
