It actually depends more on the number of interested players of any given edition. There are plenty of 3.5/PF, BECMI, AD&D, and other players who just don't like the direction Next is heading. So no, it's not just an "everyone else vs 4e" argument.

It's also worth noting that they can't afford to ignore the 4e gamers any more than they could continue to ignore the people who didn't like it (which leads us to the current situation), so unless they pull a rabbit out of their collective hats, they've put themselves in a real catch-22 here...
