I think that if you really want to get it to look like a painting, your going to have to go in with the paintbrush tool and paint over some areas. Filters are a useful tool, but used alone they just tend to make things look blobby.

In my expierence, Autorealm is about as feature rich as the higher end programs, but has a somewhat annoying user interface and doesn't generally give as good reults.

I'm giving it a 50% chance of being an awesome movie and a 50% chance of being a dramatically empty sacrilege to the book. I don't think its likely that it will fall inbetween the extremes.
