    Magazines Dragon Reflections #80

Where did you see Matt talking about Tim? Link? Not surprising as he is woefully underappreciated in the mainstream but over the decades he has become an influence for a lot of writers and game designers. A lot of his books are very gaming adjacent with history merging with his worldbuilding...

    Magazines Dragon Reflections #80

It's up to you, but I don't tend to memorize these things from article to article so it won't feel like repeating to me. :ROFLMAO: And I tip my hat to you for your good deed of the day. As we have painfully discovered, way too many game and fiction writers are getting forgotten at a time when...

    Magazines Dragon Reflections #80

Yeah, I thought it was weird that it was only considered a, "a solid, mainstream fantasy novel," in the review.

    Magazines Dragon Reflections #80

The Yaquinto games are a blast from the past to me. I don't remember how I got my copies. Interesting how even most OSR doesn't do this as much anymore, leaning more on random tables to populate locations.

    Dragonbane in Publix Commercial

Getting their tasty, tasty sandwiches from Publix as they roll dice. The grocery chain is know for great deli sandwiches. According to the publisher, they were contacted because have the One Ring license. When Free League told them it was a licensed property and it might be a hassle, their...

WotC Greg Tito On Leaving WotC: 'It feels good to do something that doesn't just line the pockets of *****'

Not sure that's been a great turn of events to be honest. My 401k has been pretty lackluster compared if I had gotten a pension instead. And yes, some pension funds have been invested, I am sure Mr. Bernie Madoff can tell you more about that, though.

Greg Tito Leaves Wizards of the Coast

Many states have mini-versions of fed departments even down to state investigation bureaus like the FBI. The Florida version is even named the FDLE to avoid confusion with the FBI.

Congrats for Tito. And for all those people who laughed about putting D&D on your resume ... HA!

Worlds of Design: The Sensible Monster

Ray Harryhausen once told Guillermo Del Toro the best way to make your monsters believable was to have them seen in repose. When creatures are not getting calories, they tend to be conserving their energy.

Traveller Creator Marc Miller Passes Ownership To Mongoose

Everybody is different but the big eye opener for me was when my player met their first closed airlock to a derelict starship. Suddenly that airlock was the best puzzle encounter for my table. Everyone chipped in ideas and offered suggestions. From jumpstarting the power from their own ship...

The Legend of Vox Machina Season 3 Trailer Released

Not strictly D&D but definitely a table top vibe of bickering murderhobs.

I felt like the Gama World version was a great fit for 4e's mechanics.

Well, that would have doubled down on the board game/gribbles vibe. Their take on WF provided a tuckbox for every player so they could store all their cards and cardboard bits between games.

D&D 5E (2024) Wizards of the Coast Backtracks on D&D Beyond and 2014 Content

At this point, you'd think WotC would quit trying to see "what sticks" and assemble an editorial board to bounce ideas off of. Of course, they'd probably use focus groups instead but that is a different beast.

WotC D&D Hiring New Game Designer Months After Firing Many

Would they offer more if game designers didn't settle or demanded more. Simply because they are paying the most doesn't mean they are paying what people are worth when their work impacts a whole industry.

WotC D&D Hiring New Game Designer Months After Firing Many

Apologies that I wasn't clear. What I meant was I wondered if WotC lowballs in general because at other ttrpg companies (or even owning a ttrpg company) is so low that we don't demand or negotiate for more.

WotC D&D Hiring New Game Designer Months After Firing Many

Honestly the base pay in this industry is such a difference compared to what Hasbro offers, it makes me wonder if "they," whoever that might be, are lowballing everyone in the WotC department.

WotC D&D Hiring New Game Designer Months After Firing Many

Part of it is cost of living in Seattle, the other part is working for a big dog like Hasbro; sadly the value the company places on the skill set is further down the list. The vast majority game designers do not make this much, even those who own their ttrpg company. WotC or Piazo are biggest...
