Spelljammer Fish out of water campaign - Spelljammer

I detest Spelljammer, but that idea's really fun. I love the reveal.

D&D 5E (2014) A Bit More on Subclasses from the Escapist

Your English is great, no worries. I think you could house rule the monk pretty easily if you did so carefully. I'd be cautious about something like "re-aim fireball," but substituting in the counterspell spell might work. If you write this up, please post it. I'd like to see it.

D&D 5E (2014) Magic Item Purchasing is in the DMG

I edited your thread title for clarity. Hope that's cool.

Unearthed Arcana Unearthed Arcana probably coming to D&D website (Reddit AMA)

I have no doubt they'll keep updating Basic for years to come. You're in for a long wait if you want a final copy.

D&D 5E (2014) Published Adventures: Yea or Nay?

I always love homebrew, but many of my best ideas—excuse me, "my" best ideas—have been yoinked from published adventures. Taken away from their original framework and fit into my own, I find that I have even more fun with them. And let's face it, there are some great ideas out there...

D&D 5E (2014) How Close do you stick with the Game As Written?

I seldom if ever change core game mechanics. I've never enjoyed playing in games that did so. Instead, I change and customize (with player support) class abilities, races, and magic items with impunity. In general, I make things more flexible instead of less flexible. The result? Anyone can sit...

D&D 5E (2014) How do you feel about the Forgotten Realms?

It's an incredibly rich resource full of great gaming ideas, but it's over-developed for my personal preference.

    D&D 5E (2014) Treasure?

I love this idea. "Grab their swords and armor, everyone -- and we'll need those cows!"

    D&D 5E (2014) Treasure?

I meant non-magical treasure, mostly. But the rare "good lord we can't control this powerful item" is occasionally fun, too.

D&D 5E (2014) If you aren't buying magic items, where will you spend your gold?

That's not exactly how pawn shops work, right? Pawn shops work by people getting loans in exchange for collateral, perhaps 25% to 60% of the item's value. (The average amount of a pawn shop loan in the US is apparently $150.) Then the person pays back that loan with about a 20% interest rate for...

Good idea on the Gorilla Glue. I'll try that.

D&D 5E (2014) May belong in the homebrew forum but about Eldritch Knight

As a quick example, the illusion/enchantment list for my lvl 17 high elven faerie (eldritch) knight: Cantrips: chill touch (4d8, no healing for a round), minor illusion, prestidigitation, shocking grasp 1st: charm person, shield (+5 AC), silent image 2nd: blur, hold person, invisibility, mirror...

D&D 5E (2014) If you aren't buying magic items, where will you spend your gold?

Not that this is the focus of this thread, but I can think of lots of reasons that magic item shops aren't realistic. - Lack of information/communication. You inherited a longsword +1 from your dad, but how do you get it to someone who wants it? How do you get its worth? There's no ebay, the...

D&D 5E (2014) May belong in the homebrew forum but about Eldritch Knight

Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings, but replacement spells outside of abjuration or evocation are specifically prohibited (p 75, just above the "Spellcasting Ability" subheading.)

    D&D 5E (2014) Treasure?

I'll say the reverse: treasure is fun. Give out more than you think you should, especially at low levels when there's plenty of time to adjust later, and then watch to see how they use it creatively.

    D&D 5E (2014) Treasure?

Grainger's approach is also known as the "Warhammer Fantasy RPG" style of treasure distribution. You know it's working when they die alone in a ditch, eaten by rats. :D I've never done it, but I think it'd be fun to play a character who saves nothing and spends everything.

D&D 5E (2014) May belong in the homebrew forum but about Eldritch Knight

Eh. Kind of. The lvl 17 NPC I just built could attack with a cantrip (action, doing 4d8 dmg) and a sword attack (bonus action, 1d8+6), averaging 28 dmg if both hit; or he could attack 3 times with one sword and once with a second (average damage 42 if all hit.) That cantrip better have a...

D&D 5E (2014) How Close do you stick with the Game As Written?

One of my frustrations with 4e is that (due to reliance on the character builder) it's really hard for me to house rule magic items and player character class abilities. It's nice to have that freedom back.

D&D 5E (2014) May belong in the homebrew forum but about Eldritch Knight

I just made a Dex-based Elven knight NPC using charisma and illusion/enchantment spells. Looks thoroughly balanced to me. Fun idea.
