D&D 5E (2014) 7 Legitimate Beefs with Hoard of the Dragon Queen

This is excellent, both well written and interesting. Thanks!

D&D 5E (2014) Are you doing something different with 5E?

Gratuitous plug (as I co-wrote it), but Owl Hoot Trail is pretty much written just for you. Simplified d20, fantasy meets the old west. Ridiculously fun.

    D&D 5E (2014) Spending Hit Dice

You can take as many short rests as you like (before your DM throws dice at you and tells you to stop being a wuss.) Each short rest is about an hour.

D&D 5E (2014) May belong in the homebrew forum but about Eldritch Knight

We have a warlock with all the sorcerer wild magic stuff, and a rogue/thief with some subbed in assassin and fighter abilities. That's conversion for you. Works great.

D&D 5E (2014) Are you doing something different with 5E?

I've converted over my current campaign, which is the opposite of a "points of light" game: the group started out in the finest empire in the world, it's all gone to hell, and it's probably all their fault. 5e fits the setting better than 4e did. Were I to start a new campaign, I'd consider...

D&D 5E (2014) If you aren't buying magic items, where will you spend your gold?

I'm reminded that in Game of Thrones, King Robert Baratheon was massively in debt. Might that not be the case in a D&D game, too? A king overspends, and needs to borrow funds from prominent adventurers to cover his debts. But now he owes them…

D&D 5E (2014) Paladin and Lay on hands question

I think attack rolls (or rather, spell attacks) are mandatory regardless.

D&D 5E (2014) Paladin and Lay on hands question

I was going to say it's overpowered, but you know, I'm not so sure it is. A 10th lvl paladin can inflict 50 pts of dmg with attacks; doing 50 pts with an inflict damage ability not only duplicates that effect, it removes the flexibility of on-call healing. I suspect I'd test it to see.

D&D 5E (2014) Staff of Defense and the Shield spell

Jeremy's response makes me think that's an error that got through. I'm going to let it be cast as a reaction as well.

D&D 5E (2014) Dragonborn reproduction - eggs or live young?

Look, buddy, yours can be monotremes. Mine are marsupials. Claws of hopping, pouch of holding, the whole nine yards. I will call them wyrmabees or maybe kangadragarooborn in their native tongue, and they will be MAGNIFICENT.

D&D 5E (2014) If you aren't buying magic items, where will you spend your gold?

Personally, I'm all for getting specific items into the hands of player characters -- so long as the exchange is interesting and filled with story. Swapping a Rod of Lordly Might in exchange for conquering a neighboring kingdom, which requires spending a certain amount of money to hire...

D&D 5E (2014) May belong in the homebrew forum but about Eldritch Knight

Wow, I love the idea of an Elven eldritch knight focused on illusion and enchantment magic. That'd be huge amounts of fun.

D&D 5E (2014) Dragonborn reproduction - eggs or live young?

    I've decided. They're marsupials.

D&D 5E (2014) If you aren't buying magic items, where will you spend your gold?

Heh. Thanks, but the campaign started with all the PCs compelled to join the Grey Guard, an imperial monster-hunting organization. Like taking the black in Game of Thrones, entry into the Grey Guard is considered tantamount to a death sentence; they have casualties of something like 90%. Still...

D&D 5E (2014) If you aren't buying magic items, where will you spend your gold?

I'm not trying to solve any problem at all, I'm trying to create a fun thread that amuses me. If you want to simply grouse about 5e not including costs for magic items (something I'm enthusiastically in favor of, personally, but I understand the objection), please do so elsewhere.

    [5e] Spell & Crossbones

Please allow me to say that this game sounds friggin' amazing. I can't wait to read about it as it progresses.

D&D 5E (2014) If you aren't buying magic items, where will you spend your gold?

We actually tried to do this back in 1e AD&D; DM wouldn't let us!

D&D 5E (2014) If you aren't buying magic items, where will you spend your gold?

I used to love training, but I think it works best with slow advancement. My PCs are using their funds to buy their way out of the military.

My dragonborn has a +1 cloaca of protection.

    D&D 5E (2014) [UPDATED] DMG - Villainous Classes Preview

I am sure that a player supplement will have a ton of cool new domains; in the mean time, the DMG is focusing on options that are more under the DM's purview.
