What are your rules for classic swords and sorcery?

I'm currently writing a new Fafhrd-and-the-Gray-Mouser-style sword and sorcery game for Pelgrane Press, and in doing so I've written up my core tenets of "this is what I want sword and sorcery to be." I'm really curious, though. When you think back to Conan, Elric, etc... what defines swords and...

LF your crazy, multiverse-compatible Dread scenarios

Time flux! The walls of reality have collapsed, and you think that you're just random people waking up in a random spot. In fact, you're all the scientific team who caused reality to fall apart in the first place, and you can correct it -- if you realize who you are, if you recover enough...

Cthulhu Goes West in Down Darker Trails

All right, dammit. Just take my money. This looks really good!

Owlbears, Comic Sans, and Goblins in Space: A Look At Free RPG Day Offerings

Here's the errata for Font of Knowledge: my apologies for the introduction's swap with the introduction of The Valkyrie Gambit. No spoilers are in this post. Introduction: ---- Font of Knowledge is a 4-hour one-shot mission for TimeWatch, the GUMSHOE investigative time travel RPG from...

    Who's the king of licenses?

I feel so ignorant around licenses. Does anyone have an idea of what a license might cost, in round numbers? And I know it varies tremendously by license, but I'm definitely curious.

    Do you have an FLGS?

Boston has three or four, one of which (Pandemonium Books and Games) I particularly love. I've been shopping there since the early 90s!

Where are all the great spy RPGs?

Night's Black Agents is an astonishingly good spy game. Toss the supernatural aspect if it isn't to your taste; either way, I find it ridiculously fun in a way that Spycraft just couldn't reach for me.

Coming to Gen Con? Run Piratecat's TimeWatch!

Hi everyone! Going to Gen Con! Tomorrow is the last day of GM signup, and I'd love to wrangle more GMs for the seven different TimeWatch games we have running for Pelgrane Press. The book will *finally* be out, excitement will be high, and I may wrangle nifty giveaways for GMs. Sign up if you...

Anonycon: Dec 4-5 in southern CT!

I'll be DMing at one of my favorite local gaming conventions. Anonycon (www.anonycon.com) is in Stamford CT on Dec. 4-6th, easy driving from anywhere in the northeast US. This is one of the best small cons; run by good friends (and excellent gamers!), with top-notch games, a reasonable price...

    D&D 5E (2014) So, you're hit by a graveyard...

Oh, that's so much better than the half-assed version I cobbled together last night! We still had a great time, but I'll be saving this for use later. I love it.

    D&D 5E (2014) So, you're hit by a graveyard...

There was a great undead 3e monster that was effectively an ambulatory graveyard -- gravestones sticking out of it, barfing out skeletons, that sort of thing. Anyone remember which monster that was, and (more importantly) know of a 5e conversion of it? Thanks!

[Dread] Jenga beat up my dice! My results from the indie horror RPG.

I am both buccaneer AND feline, honest. That's just my disguise. I don't think any of those folks are EN Worlders; I know them all through the Gamers With Jobs podcast and community, which is wonderful in its own right. Part three, the final bit, and the character sheets are up! (Edit: don't...

[Dread] Jenga beat up my dice! My results from the indie horror RPG.

Oh man, Middle Snu, that's really nice to hear. I'm glad it's fun for people other than just me. Thank you. I'm convinced that Dread is really all about pacing and mood. The ending of this one.. heh. The ending is good.

[Dread] Jenga beat up my dice! My results from the indie horror RPG.

Hey, this thread is eight years old! And I STILL love this game. Want to see me run it? I filmed a time travel-themed horror game for the website Gamers With Jobs, running Dread for 5 exceptional players. Here's part one: http://www.gamerswithjobs.com/node/120154
