D&D, I Renew My Vows to Thee

I actually doubt it. It... I dunno'... my prediction is that anyone who dislikes this silliness will either discount it or prefer to respect the opinions expressed to make a specific point. ...I hope that made sense.

Forked Thread: Let's talk about minions...

Forked from: Let's talk about minions... So, just sorting of throwing down the phantom damage variant... just in case anyone digs it. Anyway, I want to generate a discussion for creating minion-like enemies that 1) Are pretty easy to run. 2) Are fun in the same easy to kill ProPC ProStory...

    Let's talk about minions...

I remember a player in a game I was in turning to me and asking, 'Okay, so why do minions have just 1 hp?' My response was that, it's not that they actually have 1 hit point. It's that their actual hit points don't have any value. HP as a concept is an assessment of how much damage (emotional...

Historical Perspective: 1980s "60 Minutes" segment on D&D

Oh man, no worries... I get it. I know my tone is a mix of bitter amusement and vague attempts to find some humour in what is really terrible. It's my nature. But, I was pretty much raised in a church. My best friend was(...is, actually) a preacher's son whose father forbid him to play M:tG back...

Holy Water or other weapons for undead?

But my good lord, such a symbol does exist! A Symbol of Turning in the Dragon 364 Ashen Covenant article. It allows somebody who has Channel Divinity to Turn Undead once per day (or a cleric to turn undead again even if Channel Divinity has been used in that fight!). I prefer it over the Pelor...

swordmage preview - reliable powers with effects?

See I also think that there's a swordmage paragon path that gets a 19-20 threat range. Sir Brennen scanned some sheets of the level 17 conminisample which can be seen in this thread. The threat range for that character is 19-20 @ paragon... may be due to weapon or something, but I doubt it...

    Bugbears as PCs balanced??

Honestly, the big bastards will put out a decent amount of hurt, but it isn't as bad as a bugbear fighter who one-hands two-handed weapons w/ the right feats. Just sayin'. Or a bugbear rogue who uses a large rapier. But yeah... prejudice is the way to balance his character, but as everyone else...

Cheers! To the lady of the hour! (I'm waiting for a ladygamer to come in and own everyone with commenting about how 4e is a true gentleman...)

    Recharging Encounter Powers

'tresting. I agree on the thing about not forcing people to empty their encounter powers before recharging. TBH, I'm more a fan of using AP/HS to recover used powers. Also, I like the idea of a solo's bloodied point being a milestone and allowing each player to recover an encounter power or...

    Martial Power push back?

This makes me that one sad guy. I looked forward to getting 2WFighter in October. Sadness.

Historical Perspective: 1980s "60 Minutes" segment on D&D

Oh man. That is LOL-tastic. LOL for sarcasm. But, seriously... People are stupid. It's funny... I've had people ask me if the game causes suicide and stuff. People my age. I'm in my early twenties. Soouhh... yeah. I do dig Gygax's attitude. There's just this sense of him being unamused with how...

Worst/Most Ridiculous Gaming Experience Within a Homebrew Campaign

I did something similar once... except that there were different nations who had different opinions of magic. The PCs started in an angry against magic region, but most were magic users or from the region that was impartial, and one's home country (although she didn't use magic) was the one...

    swordmage powers

Analysis. Thanks a bunch to Sir Brennen for the scans. (PP) indicates what I believe to be a Paragon Path influence. (PF) indicates what I believe to be a Paragon level Feat. I'm fairly certain about the levels of the encounter powers, and I took a guess at the utilites. I assume that this...

    Excerpts: Swordmage

The thing I find odd is this wording The first part is obviously a feat for sword mages or something. Cool. The Student of Sword Magic feat is odd to me because a lot of "Student of..." feats indicate multi-classing. It sounds as if the swordmage is multiclassing into swordmage. It is probably a...

Thanks for the post! I'll try to read through it and dissect it for inquiring minds.

    Excerpts: Swordmage

Okay, so I always try to use descriptions in game that make some sort of sense when spoken aloud. The Aegis of Shielding is (in my mind) more of an extension of the Swordmage's warding ability (which I sort of describe in a weirdly jedi-like fashion). [Ninja'd by WOTC_Logan] Booming blade is...

Not allowed to talk about current HP and dying

Insight, man, insight. The way I do things is verbal descriptions of hits (bigger damage/crits leaves bigger looking wounds etc.). But, everyone knows when somebody is bloodied or unconscious. A person with a limited free action insight roll (as in, it's a free action but only on their turn)...

    D&D 3.x 3E conversion question

Okay, souhhh... 2 coppers. For ye olde dwarven barb, make sure he gets a 'serker weapon asap. Or, if need be do the suggested utility thing for him w/ the weapon's power as a basis. For the rouge, I'd say another possible idea would be giving him something that allows him to do a brutal...

The "complete" list of announced 4E products for 08 and 09

You are on! I'm guessing they'll be errata-fied. Tickles and cookies. Most evil combination you could create w/ the paradigm subverted. Also, I'm excited about the APG.
