    mirror-self alignment problem

By "mirror-self," you mean you're creating an exact duplicate of the character but with the opposite alignment? I can see how that would be a problem for some classes. The easiest solution is simply to not flip the copy's alignment. A chaotic good barbarian will fight a chaotic good duplicate...

"It's a Trap! Do Not Enter!"

My best one was in a cavern below the stronghold of an evil wizard and her goblin minions. The clue was one word, "No," written in Hobgoblin on the face of a secret door. The party immediately opened the door, of course, and were all very nearly killed by the advanced gelatinous cube that oozed...

    sort of... mission... quest... thing

When you say "lich" I assume a powerful undead of some sort. In ordinary cases I take the word to mean a powerful once-humanoid spellcaster with the Lich template from the MM, but this isn't an ordinary case. We're talking about a prophecy here, so I would assume it has an unusual meaning that...

    Rules for Horse footing?

That reminds me: don't forget to apply encumbrance penalties to the mount's skill checks. Any horse carrying a rider will probably be at Medium encumbrance, which gives a -3 penalty to all skills where ACP applies. A smaller horse could even end up at Heavy encumbrance, for a -6 penalty. For an...

    Spell Mastery

What about having Spell Mastery entirely remove the need for preparing from a spellbook? Keep all the other restrictions in place, and still have the wizard have the same number of spells available for preparation. Just let him leave the physical object at home. Compared to all the other...

The Big Picture: Psions Versus Sorcerers

Note that sorcerers cannot even Quicken their spells. A metamagicked spontaneous spell is cast as a full round action, which overrides the effect of Quickening it. A sorcerer's only options for multiple spellcasting are time stop and shapechange (into a choker). It's a 9th-level spell either way.

Why ever make an elemental burst weapon?

Go back and reread the description of shocking burst. It says the weapon "functions as a shock weapon", plus inflicts burst damage on a critical hit. It's like shocking, only more so. All the elemental burst abilities include elemental damage on every hit. Thundering applies to criticals only.

    The game mechanics of pain

Yes, but that is not what a weapon hit in D&D represents. A successful attack roll does not actually mean you've been struck and wounded. A tough character might survive dozens of sword blows, but that doesn't mean he can get carved up like a roast and still walk around. It means he has enough...

    warforged question

Peter's got it right. Note that the same thing applies to druid abilities, and anything else that depends on armor type. A warforged with no Body feats is considered to be wearing no armor.

Is Mystic Theurge a balanced P. class?

This is an extremely important point, which I think some folks in this thread have missed. Past the very early levels it is very uncommon to see any caster to use up every spell slot he has. A cleric may come close by using spontaneous cures, but even then he'll usually have a couple of small...

    What happened to Cyre?

Khyber sneezed. The dragon is the size of a small planet. What did you think its breath weapon would do?

Is Mystic Theurge a balanced P. class?

Comparing to the multiclass wizard/cleric is unfair. Without a prestige class, that character type is so underpowered it's nearly unplayable; anything looks powerful compared to that. You could use the same logic to say that the base fighter is too strong, because he's much better than the joke...

Is Mystic Theurge a balanced P. class?

Yes they're proficient, but arcane spells still suffer from arcane spell failure.

Spell Resistance vs. Potions and Scrolls

I'd be perfectly comfortable treating that the same way. If the character is helpless and an opponent has taken a full-round action to administer an inflict potion, sure, let it ignore SR. Or would the player prefer the opponent CDG instead? In nearly all cases the latter would be much more deadly.

Is Mystic Theurge a balanced P. class?

No, Theurge is definitely not better, especially if you lack a full cleric in the party. Going Theurge significantly harms your ability as a healer, without granting much in exchange. By 11th level a cleric is casting amazingly useful spells like heal and raise dead and hero's feast. At the...

Nope, sorry. I moved off Long Island right after I graduated college, so all my "real" jobs have been here in St. Louis.

    Game shops in Long Island

You'll be pretty close to Fourth World Comics, in Smithtown. Like the name suggests, it's primarily a comic shop, but last time I was there they had a pretty decent gaming section. (Of course, the last time I was there was sometime around 1996, so things may have changed slightly. :)) It's...
