D&D 5E (2014) Player consent required -spoilers for new adv book

The line is wherever you want to draw it. WotC can't send thugs to your house to enforce their "requirements." They can only print what they think is best, on the whole.

That's a very succinct way of expressing this thought. Thank you.

To you, sure. But you understand that the things you find fun in the game are not universal, that other people enjoy different things, right? ...Right?

No, I'm pointing out that you suggest the text can only be read in the way you read it. I inferred that you were not acknowledging your reading of it is filtered through your own particular biases.

What's next? Some kind of muddy embankment, presumably. Characters will have to be careful on the slippery slope. Or, some people just play the game differently than you prefer to play it. You seem to be a long time player, so there's really no excuse for not knowing this by now. It's SUPER...

Your inference of the meaning of that statement, you mean.

If that was your experience in D&D, little wonder you don't play any more. But please don't project your experience onto players as a whole.

They can't actually make you do anything. If you're getting upset about wording, interpreting it in the worst possible way, then that's on you, not them.

D&D 5E (2024) Memorize Spell is one of the most obnoxious abilities I've ever seen, despite being perfectly on-theme (Packet 7)

Cool. Make sure to ask Raistlin whether he finds using magic fatiguing. Since you couldn't come up with any examples.

D&D 5E (2014) Tedium for balance. Should we balance powerful effects with bookkeeping?

Dungeons & Dragons: the World's Most Popular Game of Resource Management (tm). Not sure it has the same ring to it.

I'm going to save you some time here hopefully in future - nearly everything someone says in a discussion forum such as this is their opinion. Pointing out that it's an opinion doesn't contribute anything. We already know it's an opinion. It's the same as posting "I disagree" by itself. Cool...

AD&D 2E Looking back at the Monstrous Compendia: the MC appendices, Monstrous Manual, and more!

Actually no, you can easily do it yourself just by doing it in with own posts, even if no one else is. Just don't post things that denigrate other people's preferences or make negative generalizations about them. It's pretty simple.

Indeed. It's a matter of preference. And one can express one's own preference without deriding another's preference.

Plated mail existed, and while not quite what plate mail tends to mean in D&D it's pretty close. Doesn't really belong in this list.

Ah, "technically", the worst kind of correct. Because it's usually not correct at all, We live in a world of meaning, not technicality. Not to mention, of course, the technicality that if D&D and AD&D are different names, then AD&D 2nd Edition and D&D 3rd Edition are different names, and D&D...

Much like the differences between B/X and AD&D. Somehow that always gets a pass.

What a horrific way of doing that. Why anyone would do that instead of just upping xp requirements to gain levels beyond a certain point is just baffling.

This is very informative in interpreting your posts going forward.
