This doesn't sound like D&D-Next to me, sounds more like another retro clone. Retro clones are fine , some people want to play the same old game forever, good for them. Sounds like you are just not ready to move on to the next level of D&D.

Untue about 4e, there WAS 4e playtest, please refer to 4e PHB page 316. This was a closed playtest not an open PT. I think that maybe the 4e PT group was too small, but I know for a fact, the final 4e game was much changed from the early 4e PT. So WOTC did / does indeed listen.

YES, Yes, YES, I so agree. I want Warrior Orcs up front, Archer Orcs in back with their Shaman & Chief. I want these all easy to grab & use. I loath the idea of giving monster class levels. Easy & quick prep time is great. Players & monsters are different & should stay that way.

A FAD is a temporary trend, but one persons fab is another person Revelation. D&D needs to evolve & improve over the years, else everyone would still be using 3 little white books. If you dread change, stay with your current edition. No one really steals your old books & drinks your soft drinks...
