Were people's expectations of "Modularity" set a little too high?

So 3.5 was minor changes? NOT on overhaul a mere 3 years in to the game requiring the purchase of ALL NEW books? That is a not "major overhaul" ?

Am I the only one who doesn't like the arbitrary "boss monster" tag?

If you play a game session fighting Goblins, defeat their boss, then enjoy the spoilers battle, the PCs cheer, does it matter what the monsters were or quanity of HP? More or less fun If the boss was a Hexer or a Shamen? If the boss had a keyword would it change anything ? Is it possible that...

We need to stop short changing thieves on equipment

On the "no reason anybody can use that" idea, maybe Kobolds & Goblins will stock up on "trick" items. Why would they fight fair, dump hundreds of marbles or caltrops in front on the PC. Pit traps with barbs, as so you cannot get your out of the hole etc. Twenty Kobolds with flashbanks might no...

If we have specialities, why do we need a plethora of classes?

Yes, Yes, a thousand times Yes. Loads of classes, the more the ...better. let me have ultimate variety.

    Help my Fachion stand out

How about not bone, but a curved wooden shaft with animal teeth protruding (like the macahutil). Maybe shark teeth, which I am unsure if that makes sense in DS. Shark teeth might be very rare items to acquire.

Were people's expectations of "Modularity" set a little too high?

Are you looking for a 'BECMI play style" or to be able to have every aspect of 'BECMI' rule duplicated, one for one. Which I am not sure If that is possible, nor what 5eNext will probably be. Some compromises MUST be made by ALL of us. I'm sure many of us don't like compromising, but nothing...

Rolling for Ability Scores or Point Buy

You may want "high-lethality", that fine, but I certainly do not nor do I want to play classic D&D. If I did, I would just play an old edition of the game. This is a GAME not real life, I DO want it FAIR & FUN. If your DM lets you re-roll, You are really getting a mathematically BETTER char...

    Help my Fachion stand out

If you could make a bladed weapon out of bone, someone would have done so, IHO. I can see making a club out of bone, how do you make a bladed weapon out of bone ?

Pathfinder 1E Would you allow a plant in a pot to be used for Entangle?

Magic is NOT just magic, the spell assumes 40 ' of plants, which you don't. Once you leave the square the "potted plant" was in, you would be clear of the effects. You posted this as a "How would you rule this" question, but It seems you are arguing people responses which are against this. So...

    Weapons table issues

What are your sources regarding spear combat? This YouTube vidio seems to go against your ideas. I'd like to see some info (links) to spear fighting, before I accept your ideas. Medieval Spear - YouTube

    D&D 5E (2014) You can't necessarily go back

The exact same thing can be said about yourself. You have numerous posts about omitting ALL thing 4E. Maybe D&D Next is not for you either. That said, D&D Next's design goal is to "unite" ALL the previous editions. Not just editions you like.

Pathfinder 1E Would you allow a plant in a pot to be used for Entangle?

Why do you think that being thrown against the ground, having your leaves, stalk, & roots subject to "blunt force trauma", let alone your roots suddenly exposed. Lets have a "speak with plants" spell used to learn the plants true point of view. Also, the entangle aspect is the plants are...

Pathfinder 1E Would you allow a plant in a pot to be used for Entangle?

You would have to have "potted plant" in hand, and how far can you through a potter plant? Standard action to toss it? Throwing a "potted plant" cannot be a pleasant experience for the plant. I would certainly call that "plant abuse", a crime against nature.

Bring all your pettiest complaints about the playtest

Humm, So only you know what Halflings really are, NO. Everyone has the RIGHT to have their own ideas, you included, but NO everyone else is NOT wrong. Anyways Halfling as fictional, I can put a yard-stick to one. Again, you don't get to decide how & when Elves hit puberty. Run them anyway YOU...

It can be cool even if it doesn't go to 11...

Passing the torch is fine, but why 10th? Why not 15th or 20th? I don't understand if you are saying "after 10 th" chars are less effective? If the rules are written well, char can be effective & fun to any level. Also, why would you have have to start at first? Fine if you choose to do that...
