LONG REST: let's add some realism.

Yes, lets not try to simulate REAL medieval medicine, but develop rules for a GAME that are playable. A single days of bed rest doesn't mend broken bones, but neither does Four or Five. Lets have the game not insult our sense or reality, but compromise of everything involved. Please have the...

LONG REST: let's add some realism.

Realistic? Realism. Really? WE are playing a FANTASY game just how much realism do we need. Sure I don't want to violate the laws of physics, much. I still want common sense to make the world work mostly the way it does it REAL life. Let look beyond edition X did it that way, so it must be...

Smite as the signature move of Paladins.

True enough, but they could detect & dispel evil.

Smite as the signature move of Paladins.

By that logic, The 4e has a Paladin, which is current & now. So we should include every current class from 4e, due to those classed NOT being from, a long long, time ago.

Smite as the signature move of Paladins.

I didn't get a copy of a Paladin? Where did you see the current Paladin? Unless you have seen a future copy of D&D Next Paladin, I am unsure how you have any idea of how the Paladin will be. Especially what class features it has, and how it will look in 18 months from now.

Smite as the signature move of Paladins.

It absolutely does, if you wanted to play a Fighter/cleric in 1974 you could have, as you can now. Please replace "instrumental" with "co-created", so his ideas are very pertinent. BAB is gone, Times do change , 4e Pally are awesome, nothing like a cleric or a fighter. So If you choose not play...

Smite as the signature move of Paladins.

Sorry for stealing the thread, but yes I want Monks, Assassins, & Druids, Bards too. All the OD&D classes, and hopefully a few more as well.

    DNDV for Victory.

Well said, I didn't think you rambled at all. I have played since the early 80s, going from AD&D, 2E, 3E, then 4E, and agree with your dislike of haters. I do understand why if you like a previous edition, why there is a need to bash other editions. I too hope that D&D Next can be the Victory...

Smite as the signature move of Paladins.

Gygax did not agree with you on the Paladin. In OD&D you had Fighting men, Clerics, & Magic Users. Then in the Greyhawk supplement, He added Paladins & Thieves classes.

    Rogues: Not Skill-y enough?

Moving on to 4e, Rogues get stealth & thievery, plus 4 more skill. Most things a rogue will do fall under the first two. Going back to OD&D, Open Locks, Remove Traps, Pick Pockets, Move Silent, Hide in shadows, Hear Noise. Six skills that all fall under Stealth & Thievery. I like the idea to...

Combat issues: slayer + at-will magic missile.

How is that, Cantrip are listed as minor spells on the char sheet. So MM is a spell technically. And currently MAGIC MISSILE is a Wizard spell 1 At-will 2+int mod = dam, auto hit. How is that really any different?

    Advantages / Disadvantages

Not sure I understand you, 40 anythings making 40 attacks is fine, but an owlbear attacking 6 times (34 less) is bad? The combat was 2 rounds 10 mins, do you really need combat to be must quicker. Sounds like a non issue to myself.

Combat issues: slayer + at-will magic missile.

I think MM sounds fine. I prefer a Mage/Wizard casting MMs than throw daggers or wield a crossbow, as to converse spells. But can you explain why you think this is "a little crazy"?

    Advantages / Disadvantages

And our favorite TV shows were still in B&W. Crayons are so middle school, d20s are more like high school D20s are like color TVs

    Advantages / Disadvantages

Possibly this is more of a problems with the encounter of 40 anythings. A better encounter might be 25 Elite Kobolds or 15 Kobold Soldiers, etc.

    Advantages / Disadvantages

"FATE also does not roll Two dice", you have some insider knowledge about FATE? Fate rolls dice? Yet is sounds like you are among a very small group that dislikes this mechanic. I myself like this, and am looking forward to seeing this mechanic in play soon.

    Sniping, Readying, Ambushing, Lurking

What makes you think that sentry wants to play the rogues snip game. The sentry can scream for his sentry comrades, then either wait or run up to melee the rogue (with his sentry pals).

Hit points & long rests: please consider?

If you have such a difficult time with the "suspension of disbelief" over regaining full HP. Please explain how you can accept regaining spells overnight. Even accepting spells, dragon, & even magic, that is not "jarring"? So waking up reinvigorated is unbelievable, yet beholder & ghouls are...

At Will abilities - no healing among the list, should there be?

At will healing might be cool in an MMOs, but I doubt if it has any place in D&D Next. I'm thinking it will create more problems, needing tougher monsters, etc. This isn't other RPGs, this is D&D. I dread the idea of a Cleric being nothing more than a mere Heal-Bot. Clerics can be, and should be...
