D&D General I'm a Fighter, not a Lover: Why the 1e Fighter was so Awesome

Yeah. In a gold=XP system, I like the idea that you have to get your treasure to a town or other safe place with people in order to actually gain the XP. Some OSR games do this now.

D&D General I'm a Fighter, not a Lover: Why the 1e Fighter was so Awesome

Yay! This is why every player should have more than one PC available for play, and switch off so everyone gets time to level.

D&D General I'm a Fighter, not a Lover: Why the 1e Fighter was so Awesome

I've never understood some people's aversion to magic gear as a power add. It has plenty of precedent in modern fiction and mythology, and IMO it's just cool. Plus, magic is amazing. Having sweet magic gear is IMO a perfectly acceptable to way to keep up in a world full of it,and 1e specifically...

D&D General D&D weapons vs reality

That's cool. I love fighters too, and play them often.

Pathfinder 2E I played my first PF2e game this week. Here's why I'm less inclined to play again.

For me, A5e strikes that particular balance pretty darn well.

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

Ok, so are you asking for a game more like 4e then, @Minigiant ? Have you looked into Draw Steel? I've heard 4e was a major influence there. Or maybe PF2? Of course, if you want the game to still be called D&D, that's a perfectly valid opinion to have.

D&D General D&D weapons vs reality

I play Level Up, not WotC 5e. It has plenty of ways to make fighters special.

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

They have different class features from each other, in all three pillars, that enforce the class fantasy.

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

But...they do. Have you read the classes in A5e?

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

Top design at WotC always read to me as, "don't expect my official answers to have anything to do with my actual play". I don't think it was just Crawford. Perhaps the result of having players constantly asking very specific questions and demanding very specific answers, coupled with the...

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

They shouldn't, and they don't force it, but most people IME on either side of the screen go for the path of least resistance, and invoking clear mechanics is simply easier than describing one's actions and coming up with a way to accomplish your goals with what you have from an in-fiction...

D&D General [rant]The conservatism of D&D fans is exhausting.

I'm sure Crawford's Sage Advice and Crawford's table are very different things.

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

Again, evenly enough for me. I see no reason why every class should be evenly distributed across all three pillars, and any pain points that do exist are small enough to fix with 3pp or homebrew IMO.

D&D General D&D weapons vs reality

My compilation/homebrew equipment document shifts around a bunch of weapons in an attempt to provide a more realistic picture. I also provide many weapons with specific tricks, generally gated by user level (but not by class) that one could reasonably do with the weapon (like the whip trip)...

D&D General GMing and "Player Skill"

I see your point. I definitely bristle when players attempt to invoke rather than describe their actions, and push back as a GM when I see it. Invoking mechanics in response to player action through their PCs is the GM's job as I see it. For my part as the GM, I try to look at player...

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

I was talking about Level Up. It's structure is IMO sound enough that 3pp can fill in needed gaps.

D&D 5E (2024) What’s the difference between sorcerers, warlocks, and wizards?

Sounds like you should look into making some homebrew class feature options, if you're unhappy with the official selection. Lots of 3pp options too. I have a compilation document full of them.

D&D 5E (2024) NPCs, and the poverty of the core books

Why wouldn't it be, at least in theory? A particular PC may never be in a position to learn any given ability, but theoretically they could under the right circumstances.

D&D 5E (2024) NPCs, and the poverty of the core books

That is definitely one way to look at it. I really strive for more from my enjoyment of the hobby than just the actual playing of the game.
