    Converting Planescape monsters

Updating the Modronoid Working Draft. Well there isn't any illustration in the original source, so all we have to work with is an encounter description: Hmm, perhaps… A stocky man-shaped thing covered in gleaming metallic plates. Shorter and heavier than an average human, the gaps in its...

5E: Monstrous Arthropods for Fifth Edition

Okay, if the save-or-half does count as 150% damage then the Challenge Ratings are a bit different than 1/2/3 if I use the First Arrangement of Breath Weapon damages: Dragonflies Combat Table Type Defensive/Offensive CRs Bite Breath Weapon Black DCR 1/2; OCR 3 (DPR 16¼ of 15–26) +5, 6 (1d6...

5E: Monstrous Arthropods for Fifth Edition

I think I still prefer the Challenge 1 to 3 arrangement in the post before the previous one rather than the Challenge 2 to 4 arrangement above. Mystaran Dragonflies aren't that tough of a monster. The Red Dragonfly was XP 270 in AD&D and an XP 175 in BECMI, which is not terribly formidable in...

5E: Monstrous Arthropods for Fifth Edition

So some sort of "Agile Flyer" style trait where it gets advantage on Acrobatics checks and DEX saves when flying? Also, I think we can give it at least one more Save Proficiency, since all Wyrmlings have Saves in DEX, CON, WIS, and CHA. Giving it 3 or 4 Save Proficiencies would require us to...

5E: Monstrous Arthropods for Fifth Edition

Dang it, I got the CRs for the Blue and Gold swapped over in my previous post. Should be Challenge 1 for the weakest pair (White/Black), Challenge 2 for the middle (Blue/Green) and Challenge 3 for the most powerful (Gold/Red). Just updated it. My original plan was to have each of them have a...

5E: Monstrous Arthropods for Fifth Edition

For the sake of argument, how about keep these creatures simple and use an extra-high regular AC like a dragon rather than a medium-high base AC plus a few AC boosting abilities like we did for the Odonatids. How about using these stats for the next draft: Dragonflies Statistics Table Type...

    Converting True Dragons

Updating Opal the Sun Dragon Working Draft. There are very few creatures what 10 HD of would pose any real opposition to Opal, so that seems like a waste of a slot. Maybe go for a druid spell? There aren't that many that would have much point though. I guess he could use neutralize poison or...

Converting monsters from Tales From The Infinite Staircase

Works for me. Also, I just noticed I can't count. It should have five leftover feats, not six. Of those, only mind fog really works for me. How about dream, feeblemind and shadow evocation?

    Converting True Dragons

These threads got displaced after a server crash so most of the older links are broken, including the link to Part One of Converting True Dragons on post #1 of this thread. That thread still exists though. It got warped to General Tabletop Discussion > Dungeons & Dragons. Here's a working...

    Converting True Dragons

Hmm, eagle's splendor for the ability booster? I'd say barkskin and lesser restoration have the greatest utility but we've already picked those as cleric spells. How about giving it one or both of barkskin and lesser restoration as sorcerer spells so Opal can use them multiple times and...

    Converting True Dragons

It's a term for a "proper dragon" that matures through age categories or a Unique dragon with an equivalent level of power, like Bahamut. For example, a 3E True Dragon hatches out as a Wyrmling and can grow through twelve age categories, with the final one being Great Wyrm. If you're old...

Special Conversion Thread: Lycanthropes and their ilk

So its claws and bites do the same damage in both hybrid and dragon form using the Dragon Space/Reach, Attacks, and Damage table? That'd be 1d8 bite and 1d6 claws for a Medium weredragon, which is a step nastier than the claws and bite of a standard lycanthrope (1d6 bite & 1d4 claws for...

    Converting monsters from Dragon magazine

Updating the Ihagnim. Intelligence 8 isn't that bad, and if we follow the original monster they'll go up to Int 16 at max Hit Dice. I believe so. How about Improved Initiative and Lightning Reflexes plus one other. Maybe Weapon Focus (tentacle)? Can't think of anything else they'd really...

    Converting Oriental Adventures creatures

Will add those with the next update. Hmm… Rapid Shot I like. Don't see much use for Great Fortitude. It already has a good Fortitude save from Martial Resilience and undead are immune to a lot of Fortitude save abilities. For skills, I don't think feats would give a decent cost-reward...

Converting original D&D and Mystara monsters

Updating the Caprine Working Draft. We're not quite done. There's still the Caprines As Characters section to complete. It'd be the Bielgorad next, the Shepherds of Bielgorna.

Converting Creatures from Other Campaign Settings

Works for me. So the Lizards can't put themselves in shells, but a Bleak One can "cocoon" them to await prey. That's a good idea. It means we're not adding an ability to our Gladiator Lizard that wasn't in the AD&D versions.

    Converting monsters from Dragon magazine

The one in Dragon Magazine #251? That was done ages ago. It was added to the Creature Catalog on 17th June 2010.

    Kraken Variants

Works for me. Updated the Male Krakentua Working Draft and a Female Krakentua Working Draft. What I was thinking of was making the Slam its primary attack and its tentacles secondary attacks, but give it enough Multiattack and Multiweapon feats that is can use its tentacles and tentacle-held...

    Converting Planescape monsters

Updating the Modronoid Working Draft. I think we need tactics for "uncontrolled" or "insane" modronoids and "sane" modronoids being directed by their creator. Let's see, how about… Modronoids attack with howling fury, hurling themselves into melee combat with their arm blades. An "insane"...

Converting monsters from Tales From The Infinite Staircase

I'd prefer charm monster and either enervation, resilient sphere or black tentacles for the 4th-level spells. The lower level additionals work for me.
