5E: Converting Pathfinder Monsters to Fifth Edition

This thread is a placeholder for Fifth Edition conversions of monsters whose original versions use the Pathfinder Role Playing Game rules. Finished conversions will be added to the Completed Fifth Edition Creatures Index. Note the Index of 5th Edition Pathfinder Conversions includes monsters...

    Grassling

Will have a look at it when I have the time. As for my attempt, after reviewing it I'm satisfied with the result except for a clunky bit in the Description so I'm changing "(grasslings are hermaphrodites who fertilize their seeds via windblown pollen" to "(grasslings are hermaphrodites who...

5E: Fifth Edition Monsters Inspired by Third Edition Sources

After further consideration, a problem with using a Giant Assassin Bug, Giant Water Bug, or Giant Praying Mantis is that they aren't aerial predators but pursue prey on the ground or in water. They mostly fly to reach new territory. Indeed, many Reduviids are flightless and may lack wings...

5E: Fifth Edition Monsters Inspired by Third Edition Sources

Okay, looked up the Robber Fly and the Basic D&D versions are quite wimpy: AC 6, HD 2, MV 90/180, bites for 1d8. Their special abilities are immunity to poison (since they specialize in attacking giant bees), improved surprise, and leaping up to 30 feet. That wouldn't be a CR 3 monster in 5E...

5E: Fifth Edition Monsters Inspired by Third Edition Sources

If memory serves me right, Giant Robber Flies are a BECMI D&D monster and aren't that tough, being weaker than the AD&D Giane Horse Fly. An accurate conversion of them wouldn't be Challenge 3. Will need to look them up. My main objection to Giant Hornets is they wouldn't be significantly...

5E: Converting AD&D Monsters to Fifth Edition

Updating Efreeti Firelord Working Draft. Now for the juicier stuff – the Actions.

5E: Converting Monsters from White Dwarf Magazine for Fifth Edition

There's multiple differences. First, my version doesn't have Keen Smell, mostly because a 5E Giant Poisonous Snake doesn't have that special trait. I'm fine adding it to the Enworld Weresnake if you like it. Second, the Bite has the wrong DC and is missing its poison damage. Oops! Bite...

    Converting monsters from Dragon magazine

Updating the Ihagnim. From what I remember, it takes some time for an Ihagnim to regrow a destroyed bag of devouring. Also, an Ihagnim can sense if its bag has been transferred to the Astral Plane and will infallibly travel to its location and presumably attack any creatures that are near it...

Don't forget the proposed tweaks also affect the Pazrael's Breath of the basic Thrall of Pazuzu Working Draft. Just edited the tweak in, but with "If the thrall" instead of "If a thrall" as it scans better in my not so humble opinion. Have updated the Exalted Thrall of Pazuzu. Now the...

I'm getting a "Page Not Found" error. Meanwhile, I will blue the Giant Grasshopper.

    Grassling

The Pathfinder SRD version of the Grassling has one issue I don't care for. Basically, it doesn't look nasty enough to be CR 6 to me. That's one CR higher than a Djinni or Troll in Pathfinder, which doesn't seem right to me. Compared it to a common CR 6 monster like a Wyvern and the PFSRD...

    Grassling

So it wasn't so much as feeling energetic as I got bored and didn't have anything else to do, but I whipped up my own version of the Grassling. Before doing so, I had a more thorough look through CaseyReeseKunst's version and noticed a few things: Firstly, it has multiple abilities the...

Why explain it? Mysteries can be intriguing.

    Grassling

Yeah, this seems a too literal conversion of Pathfinder stats for a Grassling. Fifth Edition Dungeons & Dragons has much flatter numbers than Pathfinder, especially First Edition Pathfinder. Might have a shot at doing my own conversion sometime if I'm feeling energetic.

5E: Converting AD&D Monsters to Fifth Edition

Updating Efreeti Firelord Working Draft. So I guess we should finish off the rest of the basic stats. Let's see, a regular Efreeti has: Saving Throws INT +7, WIS +6, CHA +7 Damage Immunities fire Senses darkvision 120 ft., passive Perception 12 Languages Ignan It also seems worth comparing...

Ta-da! Any suggestions/corrections or are you OK with it as-is. Will need to modify the Exalted Thrall of Pazuzu to add ten giant locusts to its giant insect roster.
